The Universal Law of Attraction
By karen | January 11, 2007
It’s a common phenomenon. Almost everyone can relate. You start looking for a new car, something special, something not like anyone else’s, something unusual. You pick out what seems to be a unique, unusual choice of a special red car and all of a sudden, there it is– your red car, the one you thought was only yours. It’s on every street corner. It is at every stoplight. You see three of these red cars just driving down the freeway. You never saw these cars before. What happened? How did all of these people get your unique red car at the same time?
Well the fact of the matter is that your brain is seeing the red cars that were always there. Since you picked out this car for yourself, that car has become special for you and now you are noticing what was really there all along.
It’s called the “Reticular Activation System” or RAS. It is the part of your brain that automatically filters out what is not important to you and brings your attention to things that are important to you. We all have it. Many a Mom will tell you that they can pick out their own child’s voice within the chorus of many children’s voices. A Mom will be sleeping soundly through noise from many directions and her baby makes a small whimper and she’s wide-awake. Our brains automatically filter what is important and what is not important to us.
Basically the Reticular Activation System is how the Law of Attraction works. We get what we focus on; we create what we think about and the RAS system of our brains just helps this process along.
There are so many misconceptions regarding the Law of Attraction. It seems odd that if this is a Universal Law why people tend to argue with it. Nobody argues with gravity. Of course, gravity is not nearly so misunderstood.
The Law of Attraction is not a new concept. It has been with us since ancient times, which only makes sense if it is a Universal Law. It is mentioned in the Bible
Buddha taught about the Law of Attraction
In the early part of the 20th century many books were written about the Law of Attraction, such as “As a Man thinketh” by James Allen, “The Master Key” by Charles Haanel and one of the most popular books of all time “Think and Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill.
Yet there are those who still argue and express their disbelief. A common argument is that proponents of the Law of Attraction claim that all they have to do is think their lofty thoughts and all of their dreams come true. This could not be further from the truth. The thoughts create the opportunities and the ideas AND the motivation and inspiration to take the ACTION to make it come true.
The Joy in creating comes from developing and dreaming in your own mind but a large part of the FUN of creating comes from the Action taken. Not many achievers are content to sit on the beach and dream of success. There is no fun and there is no challenge in that. It’s a joy to dream the dream, to be attracted to the way and to take the action to make your dreams come true. Sitting on the beach daydreaming may be fun for an hour or two but how boring to live a life like that. Taking action to create your dreams is where the fun and joy in creating comes, not just from the dreams in your own mind.
So Dream the Dream and your RAS will take over and you will be inspired and guided on the right action to take. Take the Action and the Law of Attraction will bring your dream to you.

Law of Attraction Carnival Goes Double Digit
The Law of Attraction Carnival was created by Edward Miller of Evolving Times. Ed’s intention in creating the carnival was “to provide a powerful tool for helping Deliberate Creators to deepen their connection with the Law of Attraction as …

Hi Karen Lynch,
I agree with you completely:
There are so many misconceptions regarding the Law of Attraction.
This view can be categorize into the following viewpoints:
01) The Secret - is not The Law Of Attraction. The Secret is the Agreement between the Creator and the creations.
02) There is one and only grand law - The God’s law. The Law of Attraction is another facet of the two faces of the principles of magnetism, which is a fragment of an understanding and of course an attempt to naming of the said grand law. What about repel? How ever an individual slice a magnet, there is always the south pole and the north pole. In addition, like attract like is not true. Opposites attract, is the fact.
03) Prefer not to be, do, and have, anything we want in life. Instead choose the best, of the widest multitude of options, and the finest magnitude of preferences, so that our attitude of gratitude combined with our aptitude, shall lift us up to the highest altitude in life.
04) Refrain our self from wanting everything we want in life, because we are only in charge of our life script, and the God is in total control of the outcome and result. We must know the difference between logic and magic. Therefore, instead shall we ask the God to give us the gratitude of having what we can have, the patience to accept what we cannot have, and the wisdom to know the difference, and then to adopt the next best alternative.
05) previous moments even the various guru are overwhelmed to discover why a particular method of practice toward success some time works and at other time does not work; in addition, it works on some people and yet it does not work on others. Why? The answer is a method of practice toward total success does not rest entirely on the method at all, but the “I”, after knowing the answer of “Know thyself”, is the one who is actually saying “If It Is To Be, It Is Up To Me”, regardless of the plausible method that the “I” choose to practice. Yes, different individual is suitable for a particular different method of his or her own definition and choice. Only the individual knows what works and what does not work for himself or herself.
06) Intelligence is the nature of the God’s law. Most of the definitions given on the Law of Attraction by well-respected individuals, though pure in intentions, have not live up to the standard of this Intelligence. I invite you now, when considering a definition, with regards to the Divine Law, the Law of Attraction, or any other law of our own making, let us not agree to any decision makers who suggest to build a road that provides safety as well as ensure accidents. Please observe, ponder, and reflect on this one - I attract to my life, whatever I give my energy, my focus, my attention to, whether wanted or unwanted.
Perhaps, with the best of intention and purpose, information pertaining to the law of attraction, will soon find its own place, due to the information shared in terms of value, worth, and price, are only able to cover a bit of the portion of a fragment of the totality. Meaning, it is only a facet of the principles of magnetism, within the God’s law, based upon the entire creations. Yes, the God’s law is the one and only law that is grand, natural, original, pervasive, and all encompassing throughout the entire universe within the mega-multi-verses. Other known popular laws are only names to describe a portion of the God’s law. Well, the reintroduction or rehash of the law of attraction, hopefully serve the purpose, yet have left more questions unanswered, than answers toward enlightenment.
At present, the whole is still achievable, should we go back to the basics, and re-explore the philosophy of knowledge by the pioneers.

Beautiful thoughts. Thank you for visiting.
I love the part about “the attitude of Gratitude combined with our aptitude shall lift us up to the highest altitude of life.”

Hi Karen Lynch,
I love it too.
A bit more, should any individual prefer this as a free quote, for all citizens of the world:
Our attitude of gratitude, combined with our aptitude, shall lift us up to the highest altitude in life, of the finest magnitude.

Came across your post when searching for RAS info - my first exposure to this concept was via Anthony Robbins’ Awaken the Giant Within. Here’s my review of that book at my self-development blog, Thought Renewal. Thanks, lgp

I thought you and your readers might be interested in this…
The Oprah broadcast of “The Secret” will be February 8th. I also just found out that it will be followed by an International Law of Attraction Teleconference. If you want more info go to http://www.lawofattractionteleconference.com.
Also, the more posts that Oprah gets on her message boards about a particular topic, the more inclined she is to repeat the topic. So go to www.oprah.com and find the message board for The Secret to let her know that you want more of the same!

Thanks for the heads up! I’m going to check out that teleconference now.
Glad you came by!

[…] In “The Power of the Subconscious Mind” by Joseph Murphy, Dr. Murphy tells of a story of a man who would jokingly say that “he would give his right arm” for something that he wanted to happen. Well, sure enough he was in an accident and he lost his right arm. He kept saying that was what he wanted. The Universe just complied. It did what it was supposed to. It followed the “Universal Law of Attraction” Like it says in the movie “The Secret”— “Your wish is my command” and his wish was granted. […]

As a follow-up to the Oprah show about “The Secret” last week…
There were two free International Law of Attraction Teleconferences held last week which were a big hit and attended by people in 7 different time zones. So, there will be two more FREE teleconferences this week. The link for those is http://lawofattractionteleconference.com.
Also, Oprah will repeat topics when she receives a large volume of responses to any particular show. So if we want to see more Law of Attraction on Oprah (which would be an amazingly positive thing for the planet), then we need to post on her message board to let her know. Here’s the link:

[…] I’ve known about the Law of Attraction for many, many years. Way back years ago I first read “The Science of Getting Rich”, “Think and Grow Rich”, “As a Man Thinketh” and “The Power of your Subconscious Mind” and many other books too numerous to mention. […] Almost everyday there is something new for me to read on the Internet about the Law of Attraction. Now I read most of the older books about the Law of Attraction like Think and Grow Rich” , “The Science of Getting Rich” and As a Man Thinketh” years and years ago. “The Power of the Subconscious Mind” (which you can still pick up for free on this site, click here) is about the Law of Attraction. So I knew about it and studied it and thought about it long before “The Secret” and even long before the Internet. Back between say 1980 and 1985, there wasn’t an Internet (at least not for the general population like now). […]

I am excited about your application of the
“raz” to personal and business life.
I learned about the “raz” while in college
as a sort of trade secret of psychologist that
could only be discussed only as far as a line
in the sand.
I am an ex-stockbroker and venture capitalist
and am getting into two businesses—life set-
tlements and non profit funding.
I would like to utilize your program as well as
help you market it–the value of what you offer
is as they say on visa ads priceless
please advise how i could maximize my use
of the concepts that you have refined.

There’s so much information out there on the Law of Attraction and from so many different perspectives, that in order to truly understand it and embody it a person has to integrate several ideas into one cohesive approach.
People have tried to do that, but the problem lies in trying to interpret the law of attraction instead of understand it.
We only understand by doing, yet many of us think we have to interpret/know before we can do.
In my experience, the law of attraction is much more powerful when I do more and think less. I don’t ask why the law of attraction works. I don’t try and figure out which are the best ways to use the law of attraction.
Instead I just accept the simple truth that I have desires and I can act towards making those desires a reality.
When I simplify the law of attraction down to that one sentence, it seems that many many more of my desires become reality.
April 8th, 2008 at 11:57 am
David,
Of course what you say here sounds wonderful! I would love to market more. I dream of book and tours and more and more.
However, since you only contacted me through a comment on my blog I am skeptical…If you really are what you are saying email me with a serious proposal.
Thank you.

Chris,
you are right. the Law of Attraction does not work by “thinking” it through but rather by “allowing it to happen”
Another post…Chris, you’re the best!

You people are so completely deluded. If you believe this stuff, great. I hope it gets you through the day, but the Law of Attraction is not a universal law. It isn’t a law. It isn’t true.
If you wish for a red bike, you don’t get a red bike.
If you save up your money and do the store, you can buy one though. There’s no “Secret” to that!
If you think positively about the things would like to have in your life (Also called daydreaming) and you take some sort of action to make these things happen, then you have a greater chance of achieving them.
But no secret law made them happen. YOU did.

Whew, I bet you are having a happy life, joy just spilling over! (that is sarcasm….just to let you know since you don’t seem very enlightened!)
Your Anger is completely clouding your judgment….
if you read the whole post you will see that it talks about taking ACTION!
Taking ACTION along with the happy thoughts and powerful emotions creates massive success…
I don’t care what you say…..
Negative energy creates Negative results,
Positive energy creates Positive results.
Call it what you will (or in your case ignore the truth of it) but it is true!
(The phrase “Law of Attraction” is just a label…a way of describing the phenomenon!)
