Intuitions and Wisdom

By karen | January 31, 2007

Throughout my life I have been fortunate enough to be able to tap into my intuition and sixth sense.  I do not consider myself anything other than ordinary for having done this.  I believe that all human beings are geared towards reading energy.  Everybody has this ability.  Some people have honed this ability and are able to use the gift wisely and often. Others may not have as much skill at tapping into it but they still have the gift.  A sixth sense or intuition is part of being alive.

I’m not talking about the predicting the future or prognosticating destinies.  I’m not talking about fortune telling or being a genuine psychic.  There are people with the talent to do that at will, I have no doubt.  But much like some people can sing and others can’t carry a tune in a bucket, not all of us have that ability.  But we all have the gift of intuition, of that I am certain.  I’m talking about that subtle knowing that something is amiss.  The inner guidance that tells us that something is wrong, that unease in the pit of your stomach when someone is lying to you at your detriment or that something is wrong in your world.

The key is learning to trust your own intuitions.  The key is to have the esteem in yourself and the faith in the Universe to provide you with the answers you need.

Often other people will try to tell you what they think you should think, or what they think you should know.  If someone professes to tell you that you know something in your heart, they are just trying to get you to think and believe what they believe. Nobody else knows what you know in your heart.  You are the only one who knows that.  Search your own heart and your own intuitions and learn to trust yourself.  You have the gift to know what is right and what is wrong in your world.  Nobody else has the gift to know your life.

There will always be an authority figure out there who will proclaim to know what is best for you.  That is just the way of the world.  Religious leaders are notorious for telling us what is in our hearts.  They even lay on the guilt to manipulate you to thinking what they want you to think.  But even though they may claim to have a direct line to God, they are not the only ones that were given the gift of discernment.  We all were.  We all have that gift.  We just need to listen to ourselves and trust our own voice and let the voices on the outside fade away.

Parents, counselors, friends and even acquaintances often try to tell us what we think.  They may be well meaning, they may have good intentions but they really don’t know.  Your own intuition will guide your life in a clearer direction than any other person.

I remember hearing somewhere about how the voice on the inside needs to become stronger and louder than any voice on the outside.  That is very wise advice indeed.

Learn to listen and trust your own wisdom.

Great post! And so true. You wrote, “The key is to have the esteem in yourself and the faith in the Universe to provide you with the answers you need.” … it wasn’t until I REALLY got this self-esteem piece of the puzzle that my intuition began to guide me on everything. And I don’t have “mistrust” issues at all now. It’s kind of a “knowing” that I’m always fine. Eckhart Tolle says that when you are thoroughly in the present, you can’t be a victim to anything because you just see through so much. I believe that and have experienced that. It sounds like you have as well!

Yes the esteem part is important. We need to learn to trust our own voices.
Thank you for reminding me of Eckhart Tolle, I have his books I think I will start reading more of his works.
    Thank you for coming by!

I have often been fooled by others who scream “you know in your heart…..” All the while I really did know, it was opposite of what the person was telling me to do. Later I would wish I had listened to myself instead.

Very interesting and absolutely true. I am working on a Documentary about Asian children that connect to pure states of wisdom and talk about their own society, showcasing Thailand as an unique example how our society keeps us away from this wisdom. These children will show you how you can conquer your ego and so create choices that are intuitively driven to stay on track with our pure intentions.
