No Jokes
By karen | February 8, 2007
Your subconscious mind has no sense of humor. It’s true; your subconscious mind cannot take a joke. Not only can it not take a joke it takes everything you say and everything you think as the “God’s Honest Truth”. And when you think you’re just joking around and you’re not really serious you just may be causing more damage than you know.
In “The Power of the Subconscious Mind” by Joseph Murphy, Dr. Murphy tells of a story of a man who would jokingly say that “he would give his right arm” for something that he wanted to happen. Well, sure enough he was in an accident and he lost his right arm. He kept saying that was what he wanted. The Universe just complied. It did what it was supposed to. It followed the “Universal Law of Attraction” Like it says in the movie “The Secret”— “Your wish is my command” and his wish was granted.
(By the way, you can pick up a copy of the ebook “The Power of your Subconscious Mind” right here, right now on this site for free, just click on the “Free Book” at the top of this page)
So often I hear people saying things that I know they couldn’t possibly want. Things like “I’m so poor” or “I just can’t (you name it)– lose weight, quit smoking, exercise everyday, whatever— I just can’t”. Well of course you can’t. That is what you are affirming to yourself all the time. You get what you think about. It doesn’t matter if it’s appropriate or not. The Law of Attraction doesn’t give you what you want, it only gives you what you focus on and think about. So as you think or talk about what you don’t want the Law of Attraction is bringing it to you.
The trick is to only think about and only talk about what you do want so the Law of Attraction can bring it to you.
And stop joking about even the minor things. Recently I wrote about how “I hate the laundry”. It was a joke. But I gave the laundry way too much energy. I might hate the laundry but it doesn’t do any good to complain and give it my energy that way. What do I want? More laundry? No, No, No! So why did I give it any energy except to just get it done? Don’t know.
If your current reality is not exactly what you want it to be, don’t think about it, talk about it and don’t look for and find justifications for why it is not what you want. Don’t fight against it and argue for the limitations. No, No. Do your best not to think about it, Do your best to ignore it. Only think about how you want it to be. Reality is just an illusion. You create your reality. Think about what you do want.
Only.

Many people have told me that I take life too seriously. This is usually because I don’t tend to laugh at jokes that hurt other people, even when they are not there. I guess I know all too well what that feels like. Your article makes me wonder if I have always sensed that jokes are not as harmless as we tend to think.
