Lucky

When I was a kid I knew that I wasn’t creative. I found out from a very reliable source. One of my friends had decided to study palm reading. She could answer many of life’s questions with just a view of a palm. Apparently, creativity is measured by the length of your pinkie finger. My pinkie finger was quite a bit shorter than my ring finger. Therefore it was considered to be on the short side. According to the vast wisdom my friend had learned about lifelines and palm reading I was out of luck. My pinkie finger was too short. I was not a creative person.
Later on when I was a young adult I visited an astrologer. According to the vast wisdom she had learned about the placement of the planets at a given time, I was an incredibly creative individual destined to make an impact on the world. I would also be awash with an abundance of money.
Wow, I liked that prediction. I really want to believe that. I’m still waiting. I can envision that “awash with money”. It brings me much pleasure to imagine that.
But I have come to believe that the truth of the matter is that none of that stuff outside of you makes any difference. What truly matters is what you believe yourself. You get to decide the direction of your life. The alignment of the planets or the lines on your hands don’t make the difference in your life, you make the difference in your life. You are the creator of your own masterpiece.
Now I know that there are palm readers and astrologers out there that believe wholeheartedly in what they do. And no doubt they are often proven right. Yet I dare say that the faith and the belief of the person is the determining factor. I believe that we have the ability to direct our own lives, to create our own purpose and to follow it through. We set the tone. We determine our destinies. When we give away our power and believe in a myth, as I did about the creativity and the pinkie finger we limit ourselves.
I believe we create our own luck. If that’s not true I am going to have to go back to bed because in the immortal words of a favorite song……..
“The Stars are stacked against you girl, get back in bed”.
But no, I feel Lucky!

karen, when my life gets tough i read my horoscope or check out tarot reading. if all is promising i am happy but i don’t believe it. i wish for it to tbe true but i don’t believe it. if i get a negative reading i worry and think it is not true.
i know that what happens in my life i will always have a choice. that choice is what determines what path i will take.

When it is promising and you are happy why not believe it? After all you create your own reality.
But when it is negative that is when you need to discount it and never let it enter your mind again because after all, You create your own reality!

This is a wonderful post Karen. I think all of us have had some experience with horoscopes, hand reading, tarot or whatever, but we should always remember these wise words

I think of horoscopes as a game. Sometimes it can be fun to see what they say but, it can be dangerous to put faith into them. It is our thoughts that determine our experience.
