The Debate

By karen | March 24, 2007

I just watched ABC’s Nightline about the “Dangers” of The Secret. I must say that all of this hoopla is becoming quite the bugaboo. I’m tiring of the whole debate. I don’t even want to watch it anymore. Both sides are just double-talking.

For example, tonight a, well I don’t know if he was renowned or not, but a physicist claimed that the Law of Attraction as explained by physics does not do anything that “The Secret” claims it does. This guy actually said something like “in order to create Success, you need to focus and think about it, have passion and take action”. Okay. And that explanation is different from how to create success as presented in “The Secret” how? Let’s analyze this a little bit. First he said “focus and think”, and then he said have “a passion”, then he said “take action”.

The argument is becoming just a matter of Semantics. I’m sorry, as far as I’m concerned he said the same thing “The Secret” said. He said it with different words.

One more thing, Rhonda Byrne made a huge error in judgment when she wrote about “not looking at fat people” to manage your weight. She opened herself up for ridicule there. She really should have considered just how to delicately and effectively communicate her message about weight without resorting to the lowest common denominator. I believe I understand what she was saying and what she meant but she sure said it wrong for the masses. She won’t be able to undo that with the critics. That was a mistake.

So I wonder now if “The Secret” has just become a huge fad, soon to fade into oblivion like so many fads before it.

But the people who incorporate it into their lives, who use it for their benefit, and who really improve their lives will continue to learn and study and remember that this wisdom has been around since ancient times. “The Secret” is not anything new.

    Karen,

I am totally with you, and in fact, I have been at this point for the past few weeks. I have gotten to the point where I don’t even read positive things about the Law of Attraction anymore because it all reminds me of the debate.

I am doing exactly what a true LOA’er should be doing, which is believing, practicing the concepts, staying positive, and steering clear of any negativity or confusion.

I do hope that the whole thing doesn’t just fade into a fad, but even if it does, that won’t stop the LOA from working. It has always been on, and it always WILL be on, regardless of how much conscious thought us humans give it. :)

Yeah, the media has ruined it right now with the constant discussion. This post was actually written from a level of frustration after staying up to watch it on Nightline. Thanks for stopping by Aaron!

Say what we all will about “The Secret,” I’m so grateful to Rhonda Byrne for putting the film together so beautifully, and bringing it together as she did. My passion is Bigger Small Talk (in fact, I’m holding a Summit for Bigger Small Talk in Fargo in June), and if nothing else, The Secret has really done that. People are talking about taking responsibility for their own happiness and their own lives instead of looking to place blame somewhere else. As you said, Karen, that really is the LoA in action. It really doesn’t matter what people are saying about this - they are just demonstrating the law of attraction … they will see what they’re looking for. Believe the world is a bad place, you’ll be right. Believe the world is a good place, you’ll be right. It’s the same law. At least we’re all voicing our opinion. And that’s what I call Bigger Small Talk! Thanks for this post and for your blog, Karen. I’ve learned one important lesson from the film - to be Grateful!!!!

Yes, I am grateful that the Secret came out also. Whether it was just the times or the medium, Rhonda Byrne was able to touch more of the masses than any of her predecessors before her.
And it gives us something better to talk about!! LOL
Good Luck with your Bigger Small Talk Summit. Sounds interesting!

I guess some people are just not ready for the kind of power that “The Secret” gives. I don’t really understand why some people just don’t get it. I’m just thankful to know about it, and to be able to incorporate it into my own life. I am also thankful that there are others out there who feel as I do, and are willing to share their thoughts and feelings.
