Only One Elvis

By karen | April 1, 2007

Guru’s are a dime a dozen. What is it that you want to do? What is it that you want to learn? What is it that you need to know? Just let me know and I can find a Guru for you. Somebody out there is claiming to have the answers that you need. Somebody has probably already done whatever it is you want to do.

And that is wonderful. It is always great to be able to analyze someone else’s success and model yourself after them. But you need to remember that you also have your own wisdom, your own magic and your own special ingredients to add to the success mixture and without your own magic added in you won’t achieve the success that you want.

There is no magic bullet for success except for the magic bullet that is already within you. You can’t find it from a guru. You can’t find it by being a groupie. You can only find it when you become your best self and connect to the source of all that is.

You can learn from others. You can improve on what they do. But you can never find true success by being an imitation of someone else. It can’t be done.

I have an acquaintance who seems to think that others hold the magic cards to success. This person is endlessly looking for a new Guru with all the answers. He constantly buys self-improvement and business programs (sometimes he never even opens the packages!). He often calls on new Guru’s hoping for some special attention that will rocket him to the next level of success. But it never happens. He is continuously disappointed with this approach, because nobody can carry someone else to success on their coattails. It doesn’t happen. Every one has to create their own success, if they are looking for the real thing.

And truly that is how it should be. There is room for everyone. Think about it. The most successful singers, actors, comedians, politicians, artists, authors (think of more things we can all relate to!) are not excellent imitations of anyone else. They are excellent representations of themselves. It doesn’t matter how many “Elvis impersonators” show up in this world, there always will be “only one Elvis”.

And there is only one You, only one person in the entire world with your exact aptitude for success. You were given the keys to achieve your dreams when you were given the dream. The Guru’s are only there for direction. They are never there for imitation or to gather you up and whisk you off to your free ride to success. Take what you need and leave the rest.

You deserve and you are worthy of creating your own best success. And that my friend will feel better for you than anyone else’s ever could.
