Life and Contrast
By karen | April 10, 2007
Life is to be experienced.
We have heard from many philosophers about the meaning of life. It ranges from “life is a bowl of cherries” to “life is a dance” to “life is just a game we play” and more. And Life may be all of those things. It may not be. But no one can argue, “Life is to be experienced”.
We have all had experiences that we would have just as soon avoided. Things happen to all of us that we would have preferred to do without. We make mistakes. Life happens. Sometimes it’s not pleasant.
So why does that happen? Why can’t we just create the life that we want and avoid all of the contrast of what we don’t like?
The fact is that contrast serves a valuable purpose in our lives, not to teach us hard-earned lessons or to torture us into compliance of arbitrary rules but rather to help us to clarify what we really do want in our lives.
When you are experiencing something that you don’t want and you are really clear about not wanting this experience you are in an excellent position to really clarify what it is that you do want. No one wants to experience a good and loving relationship more than the person who has felt the heartbreak and pain of the bad relationship. No one wants to experience wealth and abundance more than the person who has felt the abject fear of financial difficulties. And no one wants to experience perfect and radiant health more than the person whose strength of body is compromised and limited in sickness.
So when you are experiencing what you don’t want you can absolutely become clear and get into the position where you can create the life you do want but often the problem comes when you keep focusing on “What is” or your current reality, which is not what you really want.
You have the clarification. Life has given you the contrast so that you can clearly define your true desires. Now is the time to focus and visualize and daydream and think about “only” what it is that you do want.
Your mind is the most creative force in your life. You can be, do or have anything that your mind can conceive. Let your mind conceive your dreams. Don’t focus on “what is” or your current reality if it’s not everything that you want.
Life happens. Sometimes it’s amazing and wonderful and sometimes it’s “less than” but the times when it is “less than” are the times you have the greatest opportunity to become absolutely clear. When you become absolutely clear you can more easily create the life that you do want.

How bleak the world world look with no contrast. It is true that without knowing pain you can’t really enjoy pleasure.
