“I am…” The Declaration

By karen | April 14, 2007

Declaration: 1. Something that is announced, avowed, proclaimed.
2. An explicit, formal announcement.
3. A statement that is emphatic and explicit.

These are just a few of the phrases that describe the word declaration. It sounds important and it is. A declaration is a serious statement.

The most common declaration that we as physical beings use is the phrase “I am”. We then follow that all declarative phrase with any number of other descriptive words to declare what we are.

“I am tired”
“I am healthy”
“I am broke”
“I am wealthy”

But how often to we use this phrase for something that we really don’t want?

Many years ago, back when I was selling real estate, I was working with some clients to find a home. They were a nice, young couple just a few years younger than me. I was in my early 30’s at the time so they had to be in their late 20’s, early 30’s. This woman was a beautiful, young mother with a nice husband, a couple of kids, young enough to have a lot of life left. But she made a declaration that brought chills to my heart. When I think of it today it still makes me shudder. She said that she didn’t want a multi-level or a 2-story home she wanted a ranch, because she said “I am going to be in a wheelchair when I am older”. She then laughed it off like it was a joke but the declaration had been made. It didn’t feel like a joke.

I tell this story just to illustrate the contrast. I had already been studying the Law of Attraction and self-improvement and I was actively in the process of creating the great life I longed for. So of course I instantly had a negative reaction when albeit jokingly this beautiful, young, vibrant woman declared something so emphatically that would be undesirable to most people.
I don’t think she realized how much power our words and our thoughts and our vibrations really have. She was creating by default as so many do.

But our words, our thoughts and our vibrations do have power, immense power. Declarations are a powerful sentiment. When you say “I am…”
You are making a declaration of who you are. You are making a declaration of what you are. You are creating your life and yourself in the image you project.

So think about that next time you make the declaration “I am…”

Create what you truly want. Stop yourself before declaring something that you don’t want.

Thanks for sharing on this very important subject Karen. We must really watch our words, remember who is hearing all the time!

If nobody else hears us at all, we hear everything that we say and we are the creators of our lives. That is why we need to watch what we declare!
Thanks for stopping by Alan, your comments are always appreciated!

Wow! That womans declaration gave me chills. The idea of the universe saying “As you wish”, makes me cringe. I hope for her sake that she makes a new and more positive declaration that will hold more power than this one.
