Mommies, Moms, Grandmas and the Circle of Life

By karen | May 9, 2007

Mothers Day has arrived early for me this year. This year I am exceptionally grateful that I have three amazing and incredible people who call me “Mommy” (well, one of them only calls me “Mommy” when her friends aren’t around—when the friends are around it’s “Mom”)

I also have an amazing and incredible person in my life who calls me Karen (but when he was little he called me his “Step-a-Mom”).

I know an amazing and incredible person who has grown into being a fine young adult and he calls me “Mom”.

And today I was promoted.

I now know an amazing and incredible little person who will call me by the honorable and coveted title of “Grandma”.

Yes, after spending a long day at the hospital, watching monitors and waiting on time, at shortly after 6:00 pm this evening my Grandson, Mr. KJB arrived in this world, weighing in at 7 lbs. 6 oz. with a mass of black hair and a beautiful little face. My son is in awe at being the proud Papa and my daughter-in-law is tired and hungry but happy.

It is an amazing thing to be a “Grandma”. I asked my own mother who became a “Great-Grandma” today how it happens. How does this time pass and turn me into a “Grandma” when I still feel young and vibrant with a lot of wonderful life left? She said she didn’t know.

She wonders the same thing.

I have been Blessed in this amazing Circle of Life!

Thank you Swan! Even though I am happy about that title I still have to get used to it!
But as my son informed me “it’s not an age thing, it’s a family thing!”

A very happy Mother’s Day, indeed. Love your son’s comment about it not being an age thing but a family thing. Perfect.
