Success Tag….

By karen | March 8, 2007

I have been issued a challenge. I’ve been tagged. Ophelia and Shauna at BreathingProsperity.com are the ones I realized had tagged me. Aaron Potts at Todayisthatday.com started a Simply Successful Secrets experiment. You can read all of the details here. Apparently Aaron had tagged me also but I didn’t know it so Ophelia and Shauna get the credit.

The challenge is to name 5 or 6 or 10 or however many things you deem important that you do every day to create success.

So my first thoughts were “Everyday? Do I do something everyday? Don’t these people know that I am actually just a emotional, neurotic train wreck with only just a few flashes of brilliance?” But then I remembered my Self. I remembered that we are all brilliant and talented and fabulous, even me.

So I have considered this and pondered that. I do have some things that I do everyday that lead me to success. Actually after I thought about it I have many things that I do or try to do every day that lead me to the life I want and what I consider to be “Success”, the success that makes my life worthwhile and that fits into my own definition of what I want success to be.

So I am going to start with what I consider to be the most important thing for my definition of success.

1. JOY–I find the Joy! I look for the Joy! I search out the Joy! There is Joy to be had in every single day. I have written extensively on my blog about how we all have choices about how we can think and the polarity to everything. I consciously put this into action everyday. I consciously look for the best in everything, every situation, every person. Sometimes it may not be easy to see but I look for it anyway. I know I have a choice. I choose to see the Best. That is part of the Joy of every day but I also revel in other things that I know bring me Joy– hugs and kisses from my three beautiful daughters, the absolute beauty of the mountains that surround this valley that I live in, the fact that I am lucky enough to be married to the best friend I ever had. One of my favorite spiritual teachers has said, “We are here to experience Joy”. I experience the Joy.

Okay. That is the most important thing I believe that I do for success but of course there are other things too. So moving on.

2. Read—It seems funny to me to say I do something that comes as naturally as breathing to me as something I do every day for success. It seems I have read continuously since first grade when I first learned how. But I know that my love of reading has opened my mind and expanded my possibilities. Every day I read, everything from self-help to fitness magazines and “The Sun” to the multitude of books that I always have checked out from the library, and children’s books. I read children’s books to my daughters and I read children’s books for myself, because my next thing that I do everyday for success is….

3. Write—I write every day. I may not blog every day but I do write every day. I always knew that I needed to write. I didn’t always do it. For many years I denied the urge to write. I can’t tell you why. Maybe I had to grow into the discipline. Now it doesn’t take discipline. Now I follow my heart and I follow my passion and I write.

4. Visualize—I spend a lot of time in my own mind. Actually I always have. But now I know that my daydreams are worthwhile so I try to visualize and see my end results. It has truly worked miracles for me in my life.

5. Exercise, Diet and Sleep—My days are better when I exercise. So I try to get to the gym almost every day. Some weeks are better than others for this but I do have a commitment to work out and exercise. I also try to eat healthy and sleep well. My energy levels, my emotions and my life all work better when I exercise, eat right and get my sleep.

6. Quiet time—Some days I meditate but with 3 small children that can be difficult but if I just get my quiet time to reflect I’m okay. Often it is with knitting while my family watches T.V. but I absolutely require some quiet time every day.

7. Gratitude—This is something I have done every single night for about the last 10 years. I know that it contributes to my happiness and success. Every night before I go to sleep I think of at least 10 things that I am grateful for. Sometimes it gets written down, sometimes it is just in my own mind before I crash into sleep. But every night before sleep I consider what I am grateful for.

Okay, there are more things but as I thought about it these 7 are the things that I believe are the most important to me for my definition of success for my life.

Ophelia and Shauna and Aaron, I thank you all for tagging me and asking me to participate in the Success Secrets Experiment.

I enjoyed it.

    Karen,

Thanks for participating! Not only am I already starting to see a theme in the habits of everyone who has responded so far, but I am also learning so much about my favorite bloggers!

I guess in retrospect that was bound to happen, but I didn’t think about that part of it. It’s awesome getting to know everyone better.

Also, I bookmarked your effective visualization post to share with my audience in the future. Great information! :)

[...] A new friend from the Blogosphere, Alex Shalman of Alex Shalman.com Practical Personal Development has started a new meme. You may remember a week or so ago when I wrote about my daily success habits, and before that others were writing about “why do I blog”, (for some reason I fell off the radar on that one) but meme’s are fun, enlightening and always thought provoking. This one is no less. [...]
