Time on the Clock

By Mohammed | April 4, 2007

My family loves basketball. We’ve been waiting for the NBA to come and knock on our door and ask us to do one of those commercials about how “We Love this Game!” But we haven’t seen them yet. Maybe they’re not really interested in a middle aged.. Um… ah… I mean young, and attractive couple with some beautiful kids from a small market in the Western Conference. Maybe NBA commercials are not really in our future. Oh well!

But I will say that one thing that I really find exciting and fun about basketball is the fact that so long as it is not a blowout it can really be anyone’s game up until the end. In basketball, “It ain’t over till it’s over!”

Some years back my son and I attended a game. The first half our team was down by like 35 points, my son, the basketball encyclopedia, can still tell you exactly how many points it was. But the really wonderful thing was that our team came back in the second half and won the game. It was exciting and thrilling and wonderful and so much fun!

I have seen teams come back from a 12-point deficit with less than a minute and a half left on the clock. Overtime can be a common occurrence and then it’s like a whole new game for five minutes. Either team can come away with the victory. Like I said “It ain’t over till it’s over”.

That’s a good thought to have about life too. No matter what happens, no matter if you have failures, no matter if you started late, no matter what happened yesterday, no matter if you have been disappointed before, it ain’t over till it’s over.

So you’re still alive, you’re still breathing, there are still opportunities for joy and happiness.

Go for it.

It ain’t over till it’s over!

Only 9 games and 2 weeks till playoffs! Yeah!
