Blessed-A Song That Makes My Heart Sing

By karen | June 14, 2007

It is a beautiful day here in my corner of the world. It’s about 86 degrees (that would be Fahrenheit, not sure what that converts to), not a cloud in the sky, just a slight breeze. This morning my whole family took a walk to the park. There is a wonderful trail right by our house that leads to the park and the library. The trail has millions of trees and sunflowers, it backs up to many beautiful homes (some of them are mansions), and it is absolutely heavenly.

So I spent a wonderful morning, pushing a double jogging stroller with 2 of the most beautiful little girls in the world riding along, and coaxing and cajoling (yes, that was the difficult part) the other most beautiful little girl in the world to keep up on her bike. I would run for a bit to get my heart rate going and then walk for a bit. It was great exercise, perfect HIIT (high intensity interval training, yes I am trying to get back into my old habits that have been neglected in the past few years) and it was wonderful to be together with all of the people that I love most in the world, enjoying the perfect weather and getting a workout at the same time.

So as I walked I was reminded of one of my favorite songs of all time, and that then reminded me of a meme that I was asked to be a part of. Hilda Carroll from Living Out Loud has asked us to share the “Songs that make your heart sing”. So since my heart has been singing one of my favorite songs all day, I thought I would share it and participate in the meme at the same time.

I’ve mentioned before that I love country music so it is probably of no surprise that this is a country song but I will say that even if you don’t like country music you can’t argue with lyrics like this! This has been one of my favorite songs of all times since I first heard it back in 2001. It’s called “Blessed” by Martina McBride. Here are the lyrics.

Blessed

I get kissed by the sun each morning
Put my feet on a hardwood floor
I get to hear my children laughing
Down the hall through the bedroom door
Sometimes I sit on my front porch swing
Just soaking up the day
I think to myself, I think to myself
This world is a beautiful place

I have been blessed
And I feel like I’ve found my way
I thank God for all I’ve been given
At the end of every day
I have been blessed
With so much more than I deserve
To be here with the ones that love me
To love them so much it hurts
I have been blessed

Across a crowded room
I know you know what I’m thinking
By the way I look at you
And when we’re lying in the quiet
And no words have to be said
I think to myself, I think to myself
This love is a beautiful gift

I have been blessed
And I feel like I’ve found my way
I thank God for all I’ve been given
At the end of every day
I have been blessed
With so much more than I deserve
To be here with the ones that love me
To love them so much it hurts
I have been blessed

When I’m singing my kids to sleep
When I feel you holding me
I know

I have been blessed
And I feel like I’ve found my way
I thank God for all I’ve been given
At the end of every day
I have been blessed
With so much more than I deserve
To be here with the ones that love me
To love them so much it hurts
I have been blessed

Nothing feels better than Love and Gratitude. See why it is my favorite song!

So now I am supposed to “tag” 3 other bloggers….

Rick at Shards of Consciousness, I read you were a Led Zeppelin kind of guy! That’s music from my generation-gotta love that! So, tell us, what song would you not want to live without?

Pamm from My Secret Spiritual Dance, tell us your favorite song! No country? No problem! ;)

Lyman from Creating a Better Life, What song makes you feel great?

You can check out the original post at

[...] It’s actually difficult for me to pick one, or even five, songs that make my heart sing. Hilda asked for only one song to make thing easy on Joanna, Phil, Judith, Terry, Kirsten, Karen, Claire and the others she tagged. But I’m with Judith, I’m not finding this easy at all. [...]

Who couldn’t love a band that took the challenge of naming themselves after someone’s prediction of their failure? I had the unfortunate pleasure of attending the concert in Tampa in 1977 that ended in a riot and tear gas after the band stopped playing due to a thunderstorm.

One song though? Gotta think on that.

How can you not love a band that has music like Led Zeppelin??
I know I Love them! Even the “unfortunate pleasure” is probably a great memory!

[...] Who’s my little whosit?Who’s my turtle dove?Who’s my little whosit?Who do you love?Anyway, I’ve recently been asked by Karen Lynch at Live The Power to talk about what song in particular makes my heart sing. She’s heard I’m a Led Zeppelin kind of guy, and that I am. There’s nothing like good metal to get the blood pumping. Given my druthers, when I put something on to listen to its either some kind of hard rock or some kind of space music. Most of the soundtracks in my head came from my parents, though. They grew up in Alabama in the 1930s and 1940s, and the gospel music they sang has lived in my mind. I don’t remember all of them, but verses here and there have stuck - [...]

[...] I didn’t realize at the time that it was a gift. As I read it again this morning I realized that I missed most of it last night. Just one thought from this wonderful quote popped into my head. “I am so Blessed, I am so Blessed”. And I thought about that and remembered the times when I really felt how blessed I was, and I remembered a favorite song “I have been blessed” and I reflected upon all of the things that I have in my life and the reasons why I really am “so blessed”.
