Global Warming for Deliberate Creators
By karen | September 25, 2007I had a different plan for today. I planned on writing something completely unrelated to this. However, a comment by a reader, Kimberly, on last Saturday’s post about “Together we Stand” inspired me to continue that conversation for another round.
Kimberly asks “If we deliberately create our reality (which for me is a given) and if a lot of energy put towards something (negative or otherwise) it manifests that much stronger, what are cries of “Global Warming! Global Warming!” doing?
Well I wondered about this also. For many months I even resisted seeing the movie as I did not want to “fight against”. But the fact is that many people are fighting against ‘Global warming” right now and all of the fighting against is probably not helping the matter.
However, pointing out the supposed “error of their ways” will not help either. And the fact is that we can only create our own reality. We can only focus on the things that make us personally feel better. In my case it is only me and in your case only you. We cannot control anyone else.
The best thing we can do is to find something to feel good about, find the things to appreciate.
So we can think about the positive things that are coming out of the “Global Warming“ cries. Even though the movie (An Inconvenient Truth) was quite frightening I can still feel an appreciation for it because it has brought a new consciousness. I can appreciate that Al Gore and company are getting the word out. Perhaps enough people will see it and we can all make a difference.
I can appreciate the fact that because of this new consciousness there are now books, movies and TV programs that teach us and inspire us like the incredible program on the Discovery Channel “Planet Earth”.
As you watch that your heart can’t help but be filled with a renewed sense of awe over this magnificent planet that we live on.
I love the fact that many of the grocery stores and other places are now selling reusable canvas bags for shopping. And while I don’t yet always remember my own reusable bag it is nice to know that it is possible to reuse a shopping bag and not have so many of those plastic bags around. One store by my house now has a recycle bin just for the plastic bags. That is really nice because I can let them handle the recycling and I can get them out of my house! I appreciate that!
I can appreciate the fact that the new light bulbs that emit less CO2 last for about 10 times longer than the old incandescent bulbs.
I love the fact that the “natural cleaning products” are now becoming so readily available.
Yesterday I heard on the National news how scientists are taking seeds from valuable plants that could possibly become extinct and they are preserving them for future generations. Many of these plants provide valuable elements for many important medications. That is a wonderful thing. I appreciate that. Would that have happened had there not been a concern over Global warming? Maybe, maybe not.
The best thing and really the only thing you can do is to find the things to appreciate, do the things that feel good to you (if you are doing it out of guilt, it won’t help anyway) and focus on the positive aspects. You can’t change the world but you can change yourself and envision the changes you want in the world.
And of course there is so much to appreciate. As always I can look up at those beautiful mountains and feel the awe of the intense beauty. I can imagine the ocean (or see pictures) and appreciate the intense beauty. I can imagine and dream of trips around the world to see the many wonders of this planet. I can enjoy the sunrise and wish upon the stars and be grateful and thankful that I am lucky to be alive on this beautiful planet Earth.
And there is some Good news from my part of the world, in the past few days, the leaves have changed dramatically! There are big patches of brilliant reds and yellows and at the very tops there is a powdered sugar dusting of snow.
Yes, I can appreciate the things that the Global Warming consciousness has brought. I can do the things that feel good and right for me to prevent Global warming.
And that is really the best and the only thing I can do.

Great post! I have become really lazy about recycling… I really need to do that more.

This is a really great post! Not only does it encourage me to continue what I’ve been doing with recycling and preserving our planet but it reminds me that even in business we can’t control others. We can only do things that “make us feel better”. This has been a great reminder that I am only responsible for my reality.

Wow, Karen, this post is beautiful and it’s exactly what I needed to read!
I was seeing the issue at the corner of my eye and I didn’t really look at it because I didn’t know how to handle it. And the answer was so easy.. but not evident to me! Appreciation.
Thank you for reminding me and you have me on board from today on.
All the best
