Goals and Gratitude Always Trump Green Eggs and Ham
By Mohammed | March 2, 2008Today is the birthday of one of my favorite authors. His 104th birthday in fact. He’s no longer with us in physical form but he is still with us in Spirit.
This person wrote what I consider to be one of the most concise and well-written self-improvement and personal development book ever written.
It’s short.
It’s sweet.
It’s to the point.
“Congratulations!
Today is your day.
You’re off to Great Places!
You’re off and away!”
“You have brains in your head,
You have feet in your shoes;
You can steer yourself
Any direction you choose.”
“And will you succeed?
Yes! You will indeed!
(98 and ¾ percent guaranteed.)
To celebrate the birthday of the wonderful author, Theodor Seuss Geisel, who was born on this day, March 2, back in the olden days of 1904, I have decided to have a giveaway of that book, plus another one of my favorite Seuss books. This one is a favorite because of its focus on Gratitude and how lucky you really are.
“When you think things are bad,
When you fell sour and blue,
When you start to get mad…
You should do what I do!”
“Just tell yourself, Duckie,
You’re really quite lucky!
Some people are much more…
Oh, ever so much more…
Oh, muchly much-much more
Unlucky than you!”
“Thank Goodness for of the things you are not!
Thank Goodness you’re not something someone forgot,”
Now you may be under the illusion that these books are just for children and you would be right. They are for children, all children from age 1 to 94 (and beyond), because the wisdom contained within these books is timeless and ageless.
Just leave a comment here and tell me either “Where you want to go” (Goals) or “Why you are lucky” (Gratitude). You don’t even have to be specific. Short and sweet, just leave a comment referencing one or the other or both.
Goals and Gratitude, that’s what we are after here. That is what I want you to think about, your Goals and Dreams, and your Joy and your Gratitude.
Next Sunday, March 9, I will have one of my daughters (or all of my daughters!) put the names in a Hat (Imagine that! We don‘t have a Cat but we can still use the Hat!) and then we will do a random drawing.
Make sure you leave your email so I can contact you when you win.
And as for Creating your Extraordinary Life…..
Update: 3/10/08–with just 4 comments to choose from (the one is me!) I thought “how can I have everyone win?” So…..all 4 commenters will receive one book (not the twoas originally planned, but everyone wins!)

Where I want to go? I actually want to stay. I’d love to stay home with my kids. I miss them when I am at work. I am planning on opening an home business, so I can do that!
Why I am lucky? I have six beautiful, smart and healthy kids. Five daughters and one son. I have hit the teenage years and survived, and am sitting here with my 7 week old, and surviving that. I love it!

Thank you Suzanne!
I love your comment! It made me smile!
(and I love your “I can do that” attitude—
and yes, yes, of course you can do that–my husband and I do that!)
And six beautiful kids! with all of the magic of teenagers and that sweet, wonderful, magical time with a new baby…ah, you are lucky!

I am lucky winning raffle contests! A pen, a backpack, a free dinner buffet, etc. I seem to have luck receiving free gifts!
I am also lucky in that I had always been provided with everything I needed to have. For example, several scholarships that came at at time when our family most needed it!

Where I want to go?
I want to go to places (not necessarily physical places) where there’s peace and love, where it’s warm and sunny, where there’s no stress, just giggles and hugs.
Why I am lucky?
I don’t believe in luck actually …I prefer to call it blessings. I’ve been blessed to have 2 healthy little girls and a wonderful husband. We have a roof over our heads and plenty of love to keep us all going strong.

Oh.. I won a book too? YAY… I can’t wait to snuggle up with my 14 month old, and my 9 week old and read it. Heck.. I bet even the teens will huddle around, I don’t think we’ve read this one.
Thank you so very much! You’ve made a Dr. Seuss mama very happy!
Warm Blessings,
Lilith
