Law of Attraction-Phenomena or Delusion?
By karen | September 3, 2008
A recent comment here at Live the Power prompted me to respond and address this.
Here is the unedited comment ….
?You people are so completely deluded. If you believe this stuff, great. I hope it gets you through the day, but the Law of Attraction is not a universal law. It isn?t a law. It isn?t true.
If you wish for a red bike, you don?t get a red bike.
If you save up your money and do the store, you can buy one though. There?s no ?Secret? to that!
If you think positively about the things would like to have in your life (Also called daydreaming) and you take some sort of action to make these things happen, then you have a greater chance of achieving them.
But no secret law made them happen. YOU did.?
*******
Now had this person actually READ the post that he hammered here he would have seen that it does talk about getting inspired thoughts and taking actions! Oh and yes it does talk a bit about ?thinking positively (also called daydreaming)?.
And of course, this commenter is absolutely right.
YOU make it happen but can YOU make it happen with negative thoughts and negative energies? No, didn?t think so. If you notice the commenter even mentions that fact himself here in the second half of his comment?.
*******

(yes, those are the commenter?s words?not mine but they are oh, so similar?!)
Well, yes, that is exactly what we are talking about. We just use a nice catchy phrase to describe it?.apparently this commenter doesn?t like our nice catchy phrase.
(geez, I really like the phrase myself. It describes the phenomena in such a succinct way!)
Of course, he essentially agreed with me after telling me how deluded I was! Even though he was apparently offended by the words I used to describe it! Funny how he actually says basically the same thing. Yet it’s true he doesn?t call it a ?Universal Law? or ?The Law of Attraction?.
He calls it a ?YOU?.
Well ?YOU? is a fine personal pronoun, it is very effective for referring to other people to whom you may be speaking but it in no way describes the phenomena of what YOU have to do to create the best things in your life or how the Universe and life steps up to meet YOU when YOU do.
?The Law of Attraction? is just a phrase that describes the phenomena that we can all see.
Look around at life and you see it, it?s absolutely true.
The Rich get Richer and the Poor get Poorer.
The phenomena is that it happens that way for everyone.
Everyone, meaning Me, You and Johnny Babaloo living up in Kalamazoo.
So you may call it the Law of Attraction or you may call it something else but not many can honestly and truly deny the phenomena that it is.

I’ve had very interesting discussions with my Dad about the Law of Attraction. He used to say he didn’t believe it… couldn’t get it.
Then he had a few synchronicities he couldn’t ignore. And he thought, “This is interesting” and we talked about them, but again no “Law of Attraction” stuff.
Our conversations over the months deepened and he became more interested in my spiritual growth. Again he mentioned that he just couldn’t see how the law of attraction was possible, and in that moment I had a flash of insight.
I paused, asked him to wait a moment because I thought I was feeling an explanation come up that he could directly relate to with his experience. He was curious to say the least.
As I started to share it with him, I felt my belly get strong… and after I was done sharing, his response was, “I *WANT* to disagree with you. But I think there’s a possibility you might just be right…”

When people really look at the synchronicities in their lives I don’t think many can truthfully “deny” the possibility of it. But of course, they can call it other things, and say it doesn’t work….yet when they want something they focus their attention and they get it….
Thanks, Chris

Some people are open and ready for the Law of Attraction. Some are not. What I know personally is it works if you are willing to take a leap of faith and truly deeply believe. For myself when I became pregnant I decided I was going to stay home with my child and not work full time. I had no idea how that was going to happen, I just continued to believe. Part way through my maternity leave an opportunity knocked on our door that has allowed me to mot go back to work, focus on my daughter, and push hard to increase my Life Coaching practice. While asking the Universe for a way to make my Life Coaching practice happen I co-facilitated a workshop where I meet a marketing expert who was going on her own and wanted to market only for new moms. Guess who my marketing expert is? We live in a society that seeks instant gratification. The Law of Attraction is not instant…but if you believe it will become gratifying! Keep passing on the great information! And what a joy to be half way to 100!

I can’t guess….who is your marketing expert?
Actually the Law of Attraction works whether you believe it or not…..(kinda like gravity!)
The question actually becomes
“how can I make the LOA work in my favor?”
and that is what some are not ready for.
Thank you for stopping by. I appreciate it! Enjoy your daughter as I can attest that they grow up…mine are now 8, 4 and 3.

Well I guess I’m especially deluded then, because I have had things come to me through no effort on my part.
Obviously action does play a very important part in getting where you want to be in life. I wanted to learn to sculpt and I did not sit down with some clay one day and magically turn out a masterpiece. I had to teach myself through trial and error. But those people who say things ONLY come through hard work, or action, are wrong.
I’ve written about several things like this on my blog. For example, I had a desire to play with tiger cubs that came true through absolutely no action on my part other than going with the flow of my life. I also had a wish to live on the beach and ended up doing so, also through no determined action on my part. I married a guy in the military and we ended up living on the beach in base housing, as part of Patrick AFB in Cocoa Beach, FL. One time I wrote down that I wanted to be on a particular TV show that featured crafts, and two days later, before I had even had time to research who I might have to contact for that to happen, a producer from that very show emailed me because she had seen my website, loved my work, and wanted to know if I would be interested in appearing on the show! Didn’t end up happening, due to my own insecurities, but that’s another whole story. Recently, I wanted a newer video camera and a week later my daughter came home with one, on loan from her school thanks to an Electronic Publishing class she’s in. It’s not ours to keep but we can use it for as long as we like. :o)
I feel sorry for people like your commenter because they cheat themselves out of a lot of fun by being so narrow-minded.

To often we as beings fear the unknown. We are affraid to except a positive alternative to the western taught thought. We become angy with others, casting a negative blanket over their creative wave of positive living. Whats not understood is the truth about those of us whom live under the law of attraction. Those negative notions don’t exist within our realm of existance. We love openly, we express and exercise our spirits with great freedoms. We understand that everyone isn’t going to get it right away, but in time the fear of true happiness will subside. I wasn’t born with the understanding knowledge of the law of attraction but I eventually found it. I sure this goes for the most of us.
If your not ready to believe in the law of attraction, believe in the law of possibility.

Yes, can’t we all believe in the Law of Possibility….
It is possible!

Perception… it’s the mother of all blessings and dilemmas in the world.
If you believe something is true, it is. If you don’t, it’s not. As simple as that.
Everyone believed the earth was flat for a long time. And for them, that was true. As everyone also has the right to say what he believes or not. You just have to make up your mind.
Be sure of your beliefs, and let others enjoy theirs. Love you all!

Interesting effect the fact of Law has on people.
I think because those people are encountering a new concept & language field, they have not yet really explored the realms of all that lies within the new field & of course, we all know that truth at first light, is always received negatively. It challenges one’s root beliefs & it takes time & study & honesty to grow.
