I Can Choose..
By Mohammed | April 13, 2009
I am currently reading A Course in Miracles, and the further I get into this text, the more one specific sentence comes to mind. ?I Can Choose Peace Rather Than This.?
I have been using this affirmation now and I am truly seeing its power. When I get angry, I say to myself, I can either be angry of I can choose peace. No matter what emotion I feel, this affirmation brings me back to peace and to self-control.
Having understood the power of this affirmation, I realise that I can use it for anything I want. When I am in traffic, I say to myself that I can choose patience rather than this. When I am feeling overwhelmed and under pressure, I say that I can choose calm rather than this. When I am writing, I say that I can choose to be creative, rather than this.
The true power of this affirmation is that it is based on the power of decision. It allows you to experience anything, just by choosing it. This affirmation puts you back in control. You choose what you feel, rather than letting circumstance dictate this to you.
Why not try out this concept? What emotion are you feeling that you want to be rid of? What do you want to replace it with? Whatever it is, simply say the affirmation, take a couple of deep breaths and you will be in a new place.
Have a good week everybody!

I agree entirely – this concept is SO powerful, and like you said it can be applied to so many different things.
And if somebody doesn’t resonate with choosing peace, for some reason – they can substitute anything… choosing compassion, love, joy.
Actually, even if they were to choose an angry emotion like hatred, jealousy, etc, the very act of choosing makes them more conscious and aware, and therefore over the long run they will align themselves with their true nature.
It kind of reminds me of a story Osho tells about a thief who is seeking a master – all the master’s tell him not to steal and try to show him why, but it never works.
He finally meets a master who says, “Go ahead and steal all you want. When you do it, be conscious and aware of yourself.”
The thief comes back and says, “It is hard for me to steal – whenever I am aware of what I am doing, I cannot steal. It is only when I am acting unconsciously that I can steal.”

ME TOO!
I too am reading A Course in Miracles this year. I too am hearing I can Choose Peace Rather Than This.
Especially when I get into cyclic negative thinking. For instance, some very old and stupid resentments were coming up before a visit to the in-laws for dinner. But, I said to myself, I can choose peace.
I am starting to see everywhere that if I really, really want peace in any situation – I only have to choose it.
Love it! Thanks for the post. So glad to see someone out there on the planet is on the same page!
