The Butterfly Effect

butterfly_yellow-flowers_detail_01The Butterfly Effect is an idea that suggests that small changes have a dramatic impact, over time.

Just think, how the world would be today if the attack on the World Trade Center on 9/11 had been stopped? Or if the bullet from Lee Harvey Oswald?s gun was half an inch off-target and missed John F. Kennedy, instead of killing him?

Although these are major events in modern history, we can easily apply these to our own lives.

How would your life be today if the person you sat next to in school was different and you had a different childhood friend? Where would you be if you were ten minutes late for the interview at your current job? There are countless questions like these for every one of us.

The butterfly effect teaches us that no matter what our long term goals and dreams are, there will be many small and subtle changes along the way that will shape who we are, the people we meet and, ultimately, the path to success that we take.

Did you know that meteorologists find it difficult to predict weather more than seven days ahead? This is because there are so many small changes that could happen in that time frame that would make their predictions wrong.

Likewise, it is often hard to plan our lives more than seven days in advance, because our circumstances, and those of our friends and family, can easily change in that time.

As we start a new week, be flexible. Expect that there will be changes to in the upcoming week. By expecting this, when these come about, you will be in a much more powerful state of mind to deal with them.
