Targets and Goals and Infinite Underpants
By karen | May 25, 2007
When I say the word “Goal” how does that make you feel? Do you feel empowered? Do you feel unstoppable? Do you feel like you can take on the world and make your “Goal” happen?
I don’t know about others but I never really had great feelings about the word “Goal”. To me the word “goal” always seemed “out there”, outside of me, far out into the future, something to strive for but not necessarily something to achieve. It also brings to my mind things like quotas and numbers of cold calls and other things that just don’t have a happy ambience for me. Not that I don’t want to achieve the goals but the word itself reminds me of “striving” but it does not remind me of “achieving”.
So what do you think of when I say the word “Target”? (No, I am not talking shopping here!) But think about a target, say a dartboard, a bull’s-eye or even my favorite-a basketball hoop. What happens if you shoot for the target and you miss? Usually you say, “let me try again” and you just do it until you “Hit the Target”. It is too much of a challenge and too much fun to not keep trying. When you’re out playing H-O-R-S-E with your friends at the hoops you don’t miss the hoop (or the target) and say “okay I’m done. I missed, my life is over, I missed the basket”. No you say “let me try again, let me try again” and you do and you eventually hit the basket at least enough times to spell H-O-R-S-E!
So that analogy works well for me. I feel good about the word “Target”. All of my goals have now become “Targets” and I will just keep after them until I hit them!
I heard this wonderful analogy from Rebecca Fine. Rebecca is the founder of “the Science of Getting Rich” network. I participated in a teleconference held by HealthyWealthynWise that featured Rebecca this past Tuesday. As I look over my notes again I am really grateful that I participated. I almost didn’t call in but I kind of forced myself to go ahead and listen at the last moment. The call was very inspiring. Rebecca
lives the Law of Attraction in a way that I absolutely admire and aspire to, in a happy and joyful and creative way.
In case you haven’t read it, “the Science of Getting Rich” is an amazing book about “The Law of Attraction”. It was written clear back in 1910 by a funny looking man with the funny sounding name of Wallace Wattles. You can pick up your free copy to download immediately right now at Rebecca’s site science of getting rich.
That is your assignment for today. Read the book.
I have some more questions for you.
Do you think that “Underpants” grow on trees? Can “Underpants” buy happiness? Do you save your “Underpants” for a rainy day?
For the answers to these and many other questions read “Infinite Underpants”. I guarantee you will laugh and you’ll never think of your “Underpants” the same way again.
