Action and Attraction
By karen | July 5, 2007
Isn’t the Internet an amazing thing? We can find information on whatever we want or whatever we think about at a touch of a mouse. When I am intrigued about something or even somebody, information about it tends to show up on my monitor, seemingly instantaneously. There is an information overload on just about everything.
Almost everyday there is something new for me to read on the Internet about the Law of Attraction. Now I read most of the older books about the Law of Attraction like Think and Grow Rich” , “The Science of Getting Rich” and As a Man Thinketh” years and years ago. “The Power of the Subconscious Mind” (which you can still pick up for free on this site, click here) is about the Law of Attraction. So I knew about it and studied it and thought about it long before “The Secret” and even long before the Internet. Back between say 1980 and 1985, there wasn’t an Internet (at least not for the general population like now).
So what really amazes me is how many misconceptions are out there and how many people who really don’t know anything about it at all are writing long exposes on “The Law of Attraction” and why it works and why it doesn’t work.
The Law of Attraction just says that we attract into our lives the things we think about (or rather the vibration that we emanate). Period. There is no valid question as to whether it “works” or not. When was the last time you became Rich or Skinny, a Movie Star, a best-selling author or chairman of the board without giving it any thought or vibrations whatsoever? Do cars and houses and great relationships just show up (unbidden and unthought of before) on your doorstep in a big package with a giant bow? Not often! Probably, not ever!
Of course, the Law of Attraction “works”. It’s the “trying to use it deliberately” that may not be working!
What the Law of Attraction is NOT is a myth that says that all we have to do is think about what we want. It doesn’t say that “action is not required”. It doesn’t say that we should all become dreamers and wait for the Universe to deliver stuff to our doors.
Where does this kind of misinformation come from?
If you think that thought is all it takes to create a life then I hope you have a nice cardboard box to live in under a viaduct in your city because that is where you are headed!
Now on the other hand, if you think action is all that is required to make a life then I hope that you have a very hard head because you will often be banging it against a wall!
The Creative force of the Universe works through our thoughts. Nothing was ever created in the Universe that someone had not imagined beforehand.
But inspired thoughts without appropriate actions are useless. And even massive actions without inspired thought are also often an exercise in futility.
The thoughts that you think and the way you use your mind will bring you inspirations, insights and actions to take. It is your responsibility to act upon those inspired actions.
There is an old story that has been around for a long time. Perhaps you have heard it but I will write a version here.
I’ll start with…
“God, please save me, God, please save me”
After about an hour or so on top of his roof a helicopter came by, they communicated with Ralph and offered to come down and pick him up and take him to a safer place on higher ground. But Ralph just answered them
“No, I’m okay, God will save me”
They looked at him kind of strange and flew off. All this time the water was just getting higher and higher. Many people began using rafts and makeshift boats to get to the higher ground. Soon some people floated right by Ralph in a nice big yellow and purple raft. They had plenty of room so they stopped and asked Ralph if he wanted to join them on their way to higher ground. But Ralph had faith. Ralph knew that God would save him so again he said
“No, I won’t go with you in the raft because God will save me”
So reluctantly they left. The water was now rising faster and faster. Pretty soon the Coast Guard went out in their power boats to look for survivors and people who needed to be saved from the water. As they came to Ralph they stopped and asked him to get in and Ralph again answered
“No, I have faith, God will save me”
so they too had to go on without Ralph.
Soon the water completely engulfed the house and Ralph could no longer hold on. The water completely overtook him and he drowned.
When Ralph got to heaven he was disappointed. He thought that God would have saved him. After all he had faith, he knew that God would save him, so why didn’t He? So Ralph stood in line and waited to talk to God. When it was his turn he went up to God and he asked him flat out
“God, why didn’t you save me? I had such faith, I knew you would save me. Why did you let me down?”
God looked at him with a puzzled expression and He said “Ralph, I sent you a helicopter. I sent you a raft and then I even sent you a power boat, but you kept saying ‘No‘. What more could I do?”
You may have heard the old expression “God helps those who help themselves”.
And so it is with the Law of Attraction. You put your intent out for what you want and you will attract ideas, strategies, inspired actions and insights.
But it is up to You to take advantage of it and make it all work.

Poor Ralph, cool story. Well, I know, that some action is required, but what if one can’t make himself do the right thing due to false beliefs? They should reprogram themselves first and then actions will follow naturally. I think it’s an important point. BTW, visualization itself will eventually lead to an action, I’ve noticed, that the more I think of smth., the more I do about it.

Yeah, that’s what happened to Ralph! He got caught up in those false beliefs!
I think you are right, the more I visualize something the more excited i get and the more I WANT to take action!

Some definitions refer to the law of attraction as karma or the golden rule. You may have heard people say, “you get what you give…”; “what goes around, comes around…”; “karma”; “do unto others” and a host of others.
However, when I’m asked, “What is the Law of Attraction?”, I like to summarize it in two 3-word phrases: “Like Attracts Like” and “Thoughts Become Things.”
Thanks !

Actually I think that Karma and the Golden Rule are completely different concepts. “What goes around, comes around” is not the same as “thoughts become things” and “you get what you focus on”
