Serendipity

By karen | August 1, 2007

It is neither good nor bad, but thinking makes it so.
-William Shakespeare-
1564-1616

The fact is that life happens. It happens to each one of us everyday and if we could just conclude that the things that happen are neither good nor bad but just experiences, we could save ourselves some grief, pain, suffering and misery.

There are always at least 2 ways to look at a situation, often there are even more. The truth is that it is our own judgments about whether things are good or bad that cause us pain.

I recently read an article that was written by a very financially successful individual. I was struck by his candor when he said that the money really didn’t mean too much to him and that he could just as easily live in squalor but his family wanted to have the money and of course he enjoyed it too. It occurred to me that perhaps that was part of the reason for his enormous success. Because he was not attached to the outcome and so therefore he allowed the good (and in this case the money…..loads of money) to come into his life.

So many times we are so attached to a certain outcome, we so badly want things to go our way that we tend to repel the very thing that we want.

It happens with people and relationships (have you ever dated someone who turned out to be so needy and clingy that you couldn’t even breathe?). It happens with people and careers (and he wonders why he works so hard yet the other guy always gets the promotion!). It happens with people and weight loss (yeah, just looking at a piece of cake…uhhh!). It happens with people and all of their dreams.

It’s a cruel paradox but when you absolutely “need” something in your life, when you absolutely have to have it, when you would rather die than not get it, you tend to repel it.

In order to manifest the life you really want, you have to have a little faith and mentally let go. Stop holding on so tight.

When you are mentally so deeply focused upon a certain result, achieved in a certain way, for one thing you leave no room for Serendipity.

Serendipity: the faculty or phenomenon of making fortunate accidental discoveries.

When you are clear about what you want to be, do and have, yet you are open and receptive to the ways it can happen, your life can be magic. Serendipity brings you wondrous new things to try, new experiences and new ways to achieve your dreams. You are able to see the wonderful coincidences and possibilities and when you let go and let it happen, however it will. Often it turns out better than you ever could have planned it, even if you had planned every minute detail.

I’m not saying don’t plan, just don’t plan so rigidly that you can’t change midstream if need be. Keep your heart and mind open to any and all possibilities. The best plans are flexible.

You don’t have to know exactly how it will happen. You just have to allow it to happen, however it will.

Who knows, the Universe may deliver you something better than you ever could have imagined on your own.

So often I find myself grinning knowingly, when I read your articles. This is so true! I find this often during our travels. We try to have basic plans, but leave much to chance. We all know what we want, what we’re looking for, but we allow the thing to come to us. And it always does!

    So true! It always does!
When we allow it to happen!

    Karen,

This is so very true! It’s a hard line to walk, because if you want something, it’s hard not to think about the fact that you don’t have it. However, it is a necessary ability unless you want to repel your success!

    Great post!

It really is a hard line to walk but it is so true!
when you “need” something in your life you “repel” it!
Desperation is a sad place to be! unfortunate but true!
    Thanks, Aaron1

I’ve tried and tested this theory in my life and it worked wonderfully.

One of the strange things about this is that if you wish for something very bad and you’re putting some kind of emotion into that thought, you end up repelling it.

Things -come- to you if you -really- think you deserve them. And this belief has to be natural and deep, otherwise nothing will happen.

The belief has to be natural and deep, so true!
Often our inner beings have that deep knowing, we just need to be in closer touch!
    Thanks for stopping by Armand!

Karen, I am LOVING your style! You hit on some important truths in these posts (I’ve just now visiting for the first time), and the way you articulate these important messages is both simple and embraceable.

This thing about “attachment” I’ve found is one of the biggest hurdles for my clients to get over (and me too, for that matter). Wanting something without attachment is definitely an art worth developing.

Thanks for highlighting the truths to manifesting! Great work you’re doing here!
