For Better, Part 2
By karen | August 28, 2007
Back in my college days, back in the dark ages of the 80’s, at many of the parties and shenanigans, we used to listen to “Old Bocephus”. In case you are not familiar with “Old Bocephus” that would be Hank Williams Jr. and all of his “Rowdy Friends” . I know that not everyone here is (or ever was!) a country music fan but as far as drinking and partying songs, back then no one could beat “Old Bocephus”, Willie and Waylon, David Alan Coe and the rest. The “Rowdy Friends” are still celebrating and they still come over every week for Monday Night football.
Back in those days, old Hank, Jr. used to sing a song that went like this…
why do you drink?
Hank, why do you roll smoke?
Why must you live out the songs that you wrote?
over and over
everybody made my prediction
so if I get stoned
I’m just carryin’
on an old family tradition
Family tradition or not, when people abuse alcohol, drugs (or in my case, chocolate chip cookies!) more often than not, what they are looking for is Relief, escape, or a change in their feelings.
Yesterday I gave you some great advice about choosing the better thought. Ask yourself does this thought feel better or does this thought feel worse? And that is very effective advice but what happens when it’s not really clear on which thought feels better? I mean sometimes it seems like you are choosing between two evils and neither thought feels good. So what do you do then?
Well, in that case, look for the relief. Reach for the feelings of relief. Keep reaching for relief until you can determine “better or worse”. That will get you on the right track. If you can learn to find the relief within your own mind you will be able to create your life more deliberately.
Relief can be found in cocktails and cookies but the real lasting relief that will help you master the Law of Attraction and become a deliberate creator will be found when you can start finding relief within your own thoughts and feelings. Alcohol, drugs, excess food and other things will bring you a temporary feeling of relief. Sure you feel better for awhile but what happens the next morning? If you rely on those things too often all you do is cause yourself other problems, and it will become evident in your life.
So try to get to the point where you can reach for relief within yourself, your own thoughts and your own mind. That is when you start tapping into your own power.
Some days the Joy is easy and other days it’s not. That’s life. But as you learn to direct your thoughts by choosing what feels better and reaching for what brings relief (without abusing the outside influences), you can start to deliberately create the life that you want.

Great post Karen!. Its all about whats inside of us isnt it. Feeling good first without anything outside of us having to be. I agree, that is true power.

It really is how you can truly tap in to your own power! If you can control the way that you feel you can create the life you want!
