Today I am….
By karen | September 7, 2007
It was one year ago this week that I started this blog. The first post on the blog at Live the Power was September 5, 2007. I don’t think I even knew what to say at first. But, slowly I began to write and I began to share. I met some wonderful friends and Blogging became a fun and favorite activity.
I had planned more of a celebration, you may remember back in July when I announced it. But my plans changed. This week my mind has been distracted, thinking of other things. I spent all of Tuesday and most of Wednesday at the Children’s hospital. My beautiful two year old daughter had to have some tests on Tuesday, a small procedure on Wednesday. It’s not anything too serious, especially compared to many of the children I seen up there. There are just a few challenges and we have a new adventure before us. She is beautiful, healthy, strong and active. We are up for any challenge and for that I am very grateful.
Today I am going to enjoy myself because today is my birthday. I am proud to announce to the world that today I am 46 years old, closer to 50 now than 40, (yeah, that surprises me! how does this time fly?) yet I still feel young and vibrant, happy and healthy.
46 is much, much, much younger now than it was when I was 16 or even 26! Life is also much sweeter now than it was when I was 16 or 26! That is what I love. Like a good wine, life can get better with age. That is the way my life has been, it just keeps getting better!
To celebrate, I think I shall have a Frappucino and not share any with my kids!;)
I also started a tradition a few years back. I’m not quite sure how it became a tradition except that my girls loved it so much that now it’s all they want to do on Mom’s birthday. So even though I am not much of a shopper, one of my favorite stores, Dillards, has the best sales you can imagine the first week in September. It’s the “End of Summer Sales” and the bargains are awesome!
The girls usually get tons of clothes and I am usually happy because I get such great deals! I rarely get anything but I would actually rather have books or yarn and I buy those things online!
So, we’ll have a fun girls day out as usual. Then back home again for a nice dinner and movie with Kevin.
As the song says, I live a “semi-charmed, kinda life”! And I am grateful!
Thanks for reading this blog this past year! It’s been so much fun I think I shall continue!
Stay tuned for my Birthday Repeater post. I wrote it last year and posted it on Sept 28, (didn’t really realize that someday I would really share the true day!)
But it still applies. I do want to live with Joy!
And Stay tuned for the Winners of the Seven Days contest. I reached the lofty goals I set and I couldn’t have done it without them.

Karen,
I saw both of your posts about your birthday as well as the 1-year anniversary of this blog, and I just have to quote a song:
“You’re future is so bright, ya gotta wear shades!”
From where I am sitting, your blogging skills and resolve to have a powerful and positive blog have both grown over the last year, and now that you are starting a 2nd year with those skills firmly in place, the sky is the limit!
As far as your birthday, I didn’t know you this time last year, but the person I see before me now is positive, upbeat, helpful, and generally just a joy to be around. That type of lifestyle tends to give us more of the lines on our face that are associated with happiness, so that’s something worth smiling over!
Happiest of birthdays to you, Karen!

Thank you Aaron!
I think I better start wearing those shades (to prevent crows feet you know! hehe) except I like your reason better! Because my future is so bright!!
Thanks Aaron, you are a great friend!
