Inquiring Minds-Do you Really Want to Know?

By karen | October 24, 2007

Last week I was tagged twice for the same meme, “You really want to know”.
The meme is to share 7 random things about yourself.

I was tagged by Gamy of Mind, Think, Success
and Daylle from Lessons from a Recovering Doormat.

I guess I can play but do you really want to know?

1. Well, most of the stuff I really want to share, I already do share.
The other stuff I don’t really want to share.
For example, I do not want to talk religion here.

I know that I often quote many different “Spiritual” disciplines but I believe that there is a huge difference between most religions and spirituality. So there will be no discussions of religion here, end of discussion.

2. “There was a little girl,
Who had a little curl,
Right in the middle of her forehead
And when she was good, she was very, very good
And when she was bad
She was Horrid.”

Yes, the curly mess of a mop of hair that you see all over my head there is real, natural, a gift from God.
In high school, I tried to iron it with a clothes iron. It didn’t work. Now I mostly just leave it but occasionally use a flat iron. A flat iron works much better than a clothes iron.

3. “Men don’t make passes
At women in glasses
But…
Do women in glasses
Make passes at men?”

Yes, most of the time I wear glasses. I could wear my contacts but since I hit a “certain age“, when I wear my contacts I need reading glasses and usually I can’t find them!
Not sure how that happens.

4. I’m not grown up yet.
I know at my age I should be, however, I always planned on being 5’8” tall when I was grown up. Since I have yet to reach that height and I have maintained the very same 5’5’’ that I reached at about age 17 or so, it stands to reason that I have not yet grown up. At my age, it probably won’t happen. So I will happily maintain my childlike curiosity and imagination (and my height, hopefully!) for the rest of my life.

5. I am a Millionaire on paper.
It is true. My one and only sister, who is also my one and only sibling, bet me a million dollars when we were kids that she would grow up to be taller than me. Since she is also 5’5” and no longer growing, she is not taller than me and now she owes me $1,000,000.

I’m still waiting for her to pay up! (don’t think I’ll hold my breath!)

6. I had one episode of “Glory Days” at age 25. I competed in a Power Lifting competition and I took first place. I think the trophy is in my basement somewhere.
I bench pressed 100 lbs, Squatted 190 lbs, and Dead lifted 240 lbs. It was quite a feat for the tiny little thing I was back then.
I’m still very strong but not quite so tiny anymore! (darn!)

7. In the past week I have learned quite a bit about the upcoming holiday from my children…
For example……

Did you know…..
That if you peel a grape, it looks like an eyeball? (yes, actually I did know that!)

Did you know…..
That if you look in the bathroom mirror in the dark with a candle and say the name “Bloody Mary” or “Candyman” 3 times the ghosts will come to your house and wreak great havoc? (Well, I never actually tried it but I heard that can happen!)

But what is really amazing is that apparently it works even in broad daylight when a 2 year old looks into her Momma’s full length mirror and says it.

I heard the blood-curdling screams myself!
(all…. weekend ….long!!)

And that is all I know today and all I will share.
(I still can’t believe that anyone really wanted to know!)

If I showed you pictures of me as a child you’d probably feel much better about your curly hair. My hair has also been very naturally curly all my life (fortunately for me it is thin enough that it can be straightened with a brush and a blow dryer) but, my parents seemed to think the curly look was adorable.

I’m sure it was okay when I was three but, I could send you pictures of me at 10-12 years old with a hair style that if I had sprayed multi-colors could have been mistaken for a clowns wig.

I have some of those pictures myself–
The poodle look is sooo attractive!
I’m still very careful about who I will let cut my hair because of the poodle tendencies.
