Gratitude-A Cause to Celebrate!
By karen | November 6, 2007
At a trip to the grocery store yesterday, on the background Muzak, I heard the song “City sidewalks, busy sidewalks, dressed in holiday style” (I know, the name of the song is “Silver Bells” but it just doesn’t have the same ring to it at “City sidewalks, busy sidewalks”!)
Just last week at that same store, it was still the haunting season, the ghosts and the goblins, the witches and vampires, the bags of candy were still out. It is amazing how fast things can change at this time of year. One week it is Halloween and then it is Christmas, with nary a horn-o-plenty cornucopia to be found (well, there may be a few but they are far outweighed by the snowman and the Santa’s)
We have Halloween and then instantly it is Christmas, while in the mean time, my favorite holiday seems to be forgotten.
Thanksgiving is my favorite because of what it represents, Gratitude, being thankful for the bounty of life and counting our blessings.
Gratitude is something we should do every day of the year, not just Thanksgiving. It feels good and brings us joy. It changes our focus and directs our thoughts towards the good things in our life. Yet it is something that can easily be forgotten as we get caught up in the flurry of everyday life.
Gratitude can profoundly change you. The very act makes you focus upon the good things, the best things, the sweet things in your life.
And the more you focus upon those good things the more of those good things you attract.
It’s the Season of Gratitude. From now until Thanksgiving (and even beyond) the focus here will be upon Gratitude, Joy and the best things in life.
Will you join me?
To get started, here is one of my favorite thoughts for the day, a happy mantra!
Enjoy!
I’m going to be easy. I’m going to count my blessings.
I’m going to look for reasons to feel good.
I’m going to dig up positive things from the past.
I’m going to look for positive things where I stand.
I’m going to look for positive things in the future.
It is my natural state to be a happy person.
It’s natural for me to love and to laugh.
This is what is most natural for me.
I am a happy person!

You are lucky to have Thanksgiving - in my country we don’t celebrate it - maybe I will start a new trend here - to me the whole idea is better than Christmas anyway!

I think it would be wonderful for you to start a new tradition Viv.
Just plan a day to celebrate gratitude (and of course, here in the states, we feast!!)
