What Do You Really, Really Want?
By karen | February 12, 2008
I’ll tell you what I want, what I really, really want”
Can’t you just hear the Spice Girls singing? I know it’s playing away in my head. (Stuck there in fact!)
But back to the question at hand. What do you really want?
It seems so simple, so easy. Of course, you know exactly what it is that you want.
Or do you?
See so often it happens that what we think we want is not really “it”. There are other people’s expectations, society’s expectations, even past beliefs about what we can and cannot do or even worse–what is appropriate and acceptable and what is not.
We all have paradigms that we unintentionally slip into. And then there is also that battle between our ego’s and our hearts.
All of it can stop us. All of it can prevent us from really achieving what it is we really want.
Sometimes it takes some soul-searching, especially on the ego and heart part.
Our ego’s tell us we should want this and have that. We should accomplish this and achieve that.
And it usually is in that kind of “should” language too.
But our hearts and our souls tell us what we really want.
So what does your soul tell you that you really, really want? Probably not really a closet full of Manolo Blahnick shoes or the beautiful sports car in the driveway. Even though those things are wonderful and it is more than “okay” to want such things.
It is just that usually the song of the heart does not ache and yearn for such things.
We tend to ache and yearn for deeper, sweeter and more satisfying things.
The shoes and the cars are the bonuses but not the satisfaction of the achievement.
So what does your heart and soul tell you that you really, really want?
And are the actions that you are taking everyday getting you to that destination?
