Since You Asked

By karen | February 23, 2008

Since I asked people to send their questions about living with and deliberately using the Law of Attraction in their lives I have received quite a few questions. I am really noticing a common theme in most every question so I thought I would address this subject, especially since it seems that it applies to everyone, regardless of the problem they are having.

More often than not when I receive a question the person describes the frustrations and the problems they are having and then they end with a question “Why can’t I just……?…make more money, get out of debt, attract a great guy/girl, lose the weight, stop thinking about sex? (yes, that question has come up).

So why can’t you?

Well, from the outside looking in I can tell you what I see. You attract what you think about and what you vibrate so even though you are saying you want “this” you are actually vibrating “that”.

Consider the questions you are asking.

Okay, so that is clear as mud, I know. Let me try to explain in a couple of ways that may make it clearer.

Think about the GPS system in your car. You program it to take you somewhere and it directs your way. Simple and easy, right?

But imagine this. You are in Butte, Montana and you really want to go to Sedona, Arizona (yeah, I dream of the desert!). So you prepare for your trip and you program your GPS in your car to take you from where you are in Butte, Montana to…..Dubuque, Iowa (but of course, this is not conscious, stay with me here). So as you are on your trip, driving along the question comes up over and again “Why can’t I get to Sedona? Why am I not going to Sedona?”

Well it is not that you can’t get to Sedona from Butte, not at all, of course you can get to Sedona from Butte. It is that you did not program your GPS system correctly. The GPS can only direct you according to how it has been programmed!

The same thing happens with your brain and the Universe if you will. The Universe can only give you what you ask for and what you vibrate so as you are asking the question “Why can’t I just…..?” That is the answer you are getting, after all that is the question you are asking. The answer is often coming in a whole slew of unreasonable responses which tend to just make you feel worse and worse and really just get you farther and farther away from your goals.

So think about the questions you are asking. The questions you ask bring you the answers you are getting.

So instead of asking “why can’t I just….?” maybe you could ask “How can I…?” or even better, at least until you get the hang of it all, give up the questions for awhile and just focus on the things you are doing right, the things that you know can get you to your goal.

Look to those things with Gratitude and Appreciation.

If the GPS analogy did not clear it up I have an example of something that happened at my house last night. The thing about this is that it makes it very clear because there is no emotion attached to it. This subject is essentially neutral. Emotionally it doesn’t really matter. Most of the questions we ask ourselves about money, relationships, weight loss etc. tend to have a huge emotional charge. “Why can’t I just ……attract a decent guy/girl? Lose the weight? Get out of debt? Make more money?” are all usually extremely emotionally charged which contributes greatly to our inability to see that our programming is off.

Take the emotion out of it and it really clears up.

Last night I went into my master bathroom, (yes, that would be the one I think of as “mine” as in “no kids allowed!”….I wish!) the floor was covered with about 10 soaking wet towels. Now as any Mom will do my first response was the question “How did these towels get so wet?” and of course, I received a multitude of varied responses based upon “who did this” and “who did that” and why and how it happened. But with all of the responses I received I did not once receive an answer that would tell me how to get the towels dry.

That wasn’t the question I asked!

Now a few minutes later after I had calmed down a bit I asked the right question. “How can we get these towels dry?” Well then the answers that I received were helpful and creative and gave me some good solutions on what we could do to get the towels dry.

I asked the right question and I got the answers I wanted.

Ask the right questions and you start to receive the right answers that will get you where you want to go.

That is how your brain, the Universe and the Law of Attraction work.

Focus on what you really, really want (never, never on what you don’t want!), ask the right questions and the answers will come to you.

Really. They really will.

    Hi Karen,

Great post. Absolutely right. Asking questions is a major key to finding out what is going on and how to get things done.

When I ask the right questions I get the answer to solve my problems or find an answer I’m looking for.

Since I do telephone technical support for a major cable provider, my job depends upon me asking questions, more questions and follow-up questions. When I ask the wrong questions, I’m not going to figure out the customer’s problem and never going to be able to resolve the problem.

    Have a great day.

    Thanks Dean!
Yes, isn’t it so true…if you don’t ask your customers the right questions you can’t really help them.
It’s when we are caught up in the deep emotional stuff (money, romance, etc.) that we just can’t see it!
Thanks for stopping by and for your comment!
    I appreciate you!

    Hi Karen….

Yes - ask the right question — or better yet, as you say, give up the questions for awhile…

When I coach clients that are new to the Law of Attraction - that is usually what I have them do - Stop asking the questions for awhile…

The reason is because those “Why can’t I?” questions are so charged with emotion — they bring all those “can’t” situations just pouring on in!

It is hard at first to get the idea - If you yell “NO” to something the Universe will lovingly bring it to you… The Universe doesn’t hear “NO” - but it absolutely responds to all that emotion in the “NO” - -

Thanks for a Great Article! ;)

yes, we live in an all-inclusive Universe. Shouting “no” just gives it more and more energy!

Oh my gosh - this post really speaks to me today. I spent the weekend reading a new book that sounds a lot like this. Your Child’s Strengths - it’s asking questions to help your kids discover what energizes them. I totally thought of you when I read it!

I’m hosting a giveaway for the book - you should come over and enter! Your Child’s Strengths

Great post! The old saying “there is no such thing as a dumb question” comes to mind. Though we sometimes feel stupid asking what may seem obvious, you are so right. Without questionings, how can we truly know anything. Thanks for the reminder.

    Always,

Yes, this is such an important post. What works for me is focusing or giving positive energy to the good things I have achieved in my life - somehow that gives me the way forward to achieving or attaining more good things. Being “in a state of grace” or being thankful and grateful really does work to get you to the right state of being. And just stopping asking for things also helped me. We will always have what we need, not necessarily what we “want” - need and want are 2 separate things. Just my 2c worth!

What do I want? Are you suggesting putting the Why away for awhile? Why am I….?

I will do that. I will succeed at this. I will write better bloggs. I will attract beautiful people into my life. I will earn from working on the internet.

What good people are in my life. What good books I am reading to improve the real me. What foods are good for my body to make it healthier and therefore slimmer.
What a Beautiful day outside. The winds make me appreciate the calm days.
My friends health issues make me appreciate how healthy I truly am.
I appreciate you and your articles and their suggestions.

Not the “why’s” as in “why do I want this?”
    never that!

    but the “why can’t I? why won’t this work? why can’t I just…..?”

The affirmations you are saying there are Powerful, Powerful and you are focusing on “what you want” and “Why you want it” but never on
    “Why it’s not working”.

    Thanks, Irene!
and Yes, Yes, Yes!!! You can have all those things and More, More, More!!!

Thanks Karen for this excellent article. I too have been working with the law of attraction and find the works of Abraham/Hicks very helpful and insightful. I however seem to be in my own way from creating the results I desire. I fully undersand the principles and totally watch my own thoughts and emotions related to attraction and yet the results seem stuck in some way. My inner search has been extensive and I have fine-tuned all that I am aware of and still the results don’t match my thoughts.

My beliefs line up, I am open to receive, I am deserving, I have much to offer, my creative flow is huge, my thoughts are charged with affirmations, my emotions are passionate about what I want to do with purpose. How do I take it to the next step? I ask because a fresh perspective is always helpful.

I write daily on my own self-development blog at

    Thanks for your excellent site,

    Hey Joseph,
    Your comment made me ponder….
I believe that you are in touch with the absolute best teacher on the planet for LOA with Abraham-Hicks. “There is much Love for you there” and I know that I have felt that Love many times over.

This is just a thought…it may or may not apply to you. I have noticed that sometimes when I am stuck I am not in alignment with my highest self.
I mean I think that I want this thing and it is not working, not working, so then I get quiet and reflect and I realize that deep down in my soul that is not really what I wanted. I thought I wanted “that” but I really really wanted “this”.
When I get totally clear I usually start manifesting and usually it is quick.
(there are many blog posts here that tell this story…I probably would need to point them out though)

Just a thought….like I said it may or may not apply to you.

    ****
okay, I’m back. another thought that often works for me…..
Sometimes I want something so bad I start obsessing….which for me means that I am focused on the “not having it”
when I let go of it for awhile and think of other things it often shows up!

(the last week or so I’ve been obsessing over a certain purple yarn…and so far it has eluded me. I need to just give it up!)

    Hi Karen,
Thank you for all the things you have done for the movie that you said I attracted it to my life and it was that beautiful that I cried in it because I looked at it and saw that the things that was happening on the movie was being shown to others in a way that all people from all over the world can do the same and can change there life and this is the greatest times that we are living in where people from Australia can watch something from USA and have a impact on there life and once they change, the people around them change so it whats so great is that your not only changing yourself you are changing the people around you and plus I just Pauseed the movie because I felt I need to write this to you as a gift of gratiude from to you for making a impact to me and others around me

    Many Blessings
    Ali

    Hey Ali,
We are all connected….I believe that….you can be in Australia and I can be in the USA and we attracted each other.
All of humankind is connected, it is just our ego’s that hold us apart.

That is true but the thing I noticed and really has an impact to me was to forgive, as I grew up that wasn`t something I was Taught as a man you must be tough not forgive you must fight but that wasn`t the way I remember that it was going against the water instead of being with the flow and I grew up to understand that it was that forgivness that was to set me free I belive that not only the true will set you free but also that forgivness will set you free from all the past and the stress and hate you have once I did that it was pure bless that everything has happen and its ok now and you dont have to be angry or depressed because depress is angry surpress to being depress and it was time to feel joy love happiness everything you have is always in aligment with you

A lack of forgiveness holds you apart from others but more importantly a lack of forgiveness holds you apart from “you”, your own Inner being and your own Source.
We are meant to be happy and joyful.

I have a something missing problem. I am a christian. I feel that I am worth it because I am a child of God. I have been trying to master the ‘I will’ theory. I will be better, do better, have more, etc. I am seeing opposite results. HELP!!

  18. karen Says:
    March 1st, 2008 at 10:32 am

    Hi Wendy,
From a pure Law of Attraction standpoint this is what I see….
You are saying “I will” and that is keeping it out in the future, it cannot convert to real time because “I will” is always in the future and not now.
Shift to “I am” as in “I am better”
    “I have more”….”I am….”

I sometimes feel hesitant to use scripture to make the point (it is an idiosyncracy based upon where I live..) but there are verses in the Bible that I believe say about the same thing….

St. Mark 11:24–Therefore I say unto you, what things soever ye desire, when ye pray, BELIEVE that ye RECEIVE them, and ye shall have them.

St. Matthew 21:22–And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, BELIEVING, ye shall receive.

You are worthy, I am worthy, we are all worthy because we are all part of Source Energy….(or God, the Universe…however we choose to describe it.)
    We are all worthy.
