Skinny Songs or Kryptonite
By karen | March 25, 2008
A few weeks ago, I was asked if I wanted to receive a free copy of a new CD called “Skinny Songs” and review it here. The CD is a compilation of music designed to “Motivate you right back into your Skinny Jeans”.
Well I could definitely use some of that motivation, and I must admit that I do have some “Skinny Jeans” that are hanging around in my closet.
I admit, they don’t fit!….I’m a poet, I know it!
So I said “okay, sure I‘ll check it out“.
Apparently the woman who came up with the idea, Heidi Roizen, was a little bit older than me and she decided to “get skinny” before her 50th birthday (I still have a few years before that big 5-0). She said that she could not find any “motivational” music that inspired her to workout and lose weight.
Well I could use the motivation but the music is definitely not my problem. I look at my Itunes and I see about a thousand or more songs that I absolutely love. I have also compiled about 15 play lists that are exactly an hour long just for working out. I love the music on my play lists, it’s rock, it’s country, it’s alternative, it’s pop. It’s Kryptonite! That would be the most awesome and perfect HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) and Spinning song ever, or one of them anyway! 25-30 seconds of all out effort in the chorus, followed by a recovery beat.
Well first thing I noticed was that the “Skinny Songs” CD was 30 minutes, just half as long as a normal workout for me.
And while the songs are humorous, and they do make you laugh, they often felt somewhat negative. I don’t often even think about the skinny jeans in my closet and if I do I definitely do not want to feel bad about it. Feeling bad just makes it worse for me.
What is, is.
Complaining about or even laughing about my Fat is not my style and definitely not the way I have learned to create the life I want. I figure the less attention I pay to what I don’t like the better.
I focus on the things I love and want. Fat is not it!
I’ve also noticed that what motivated me in the past and my younger days about working out and being in great shape was all about “fitting into my jeans“. It was all very Ego-oriented. Unfortunately for me, that no longer seems to work.
It’s actually about the last thought on my mind.
The motivation to “Fit into my jeans” just doesn’t do it for me anymore.
I’m going to have to figure something else out to motivate me. But the music is definitely not a problem.
So while I don’t quite know what to do about this motivation thing, I do know that I love the music I already put together and I’ll stick with “No Rain” by Blind Melon (seems to be on every play list) , “Shiny, Happy People” by REM (Happy Strategies–makes me laugh) , and as I mentioned before, “Kryptonite” by 3 Doors Down. And of course there’s more, about 1000 more on my Itunes.
I am sure that many people would really enjoy the music on “Skinny Songs“, so click on the links and check it out. It may be perfect for you. It just wasn’t right for me.
I choose Kryptonite.
