Turn Off the Lights

By karen | March 28, 2008

No, the party is not over.
But tomorrow on March 29, 2008, it is our turn to turn off the lights.
For just one hour.
For the Earth that we all share.
For the Environment that surrounds us.

For you. For me. For All of Us.

Earth Hour 2008.

Last year just one city, Sydney, Australia, participated in Earth Hour. Their energy consumption went down an astonishing 10.2%. That is the equivalent of taking 48,000 cars off the road for an entire year!

This year it has gone Global. Can you imagine the positive impact?

Watch the movie now.

And tomorrow evening at 8:00 pm turn off your lights.
For just one hour.
For All of Us.

I am looking forward to watching the lights go out. It has been on the national news in my hometown, so, perhaps it will be noticable. We can only hope that this will heighten folks’ awareness and be more mindful of energy consumption every day.

    Hi Karen,

Thanks for sharing this on your blog. I live in Australia but not in a big city anymore and I’ve only just become aware of this is the last week. I haven’t been watching tv much and I don’t listen to the radio or read papers that much. But I do read blogs and forums!!! It was also in our school newsletter. We did our part at home here last night. No lights, No tv. We spent time together reading by candlelight.

Thanks again. Next year I will not be caught out and I hope to encourage a lot more people as well.

    Kim
