Slaying a Dragon, Slaying a Pain-Body
By karen | April 1, 2008
There are many conversations about “A New Earth” and Oprah’s web casts. I haven’t always been able to get on the web cast on Monday nights but I have always caught up during the week. Pretty cool how you can watch it later or download to listen later. I haven’t really joined into many conversations.
I have to admit that I recognized the “Pain Body” that Eckhart Tolle spoke of in Chapter 5 of “A New Earth”. I recognized it in other people who I have known and people that I have met. But I think most importantly I recognized it in myself. I actually think I have recognized it for awhile now but it never had a name before. Now it has a name and a label. Instead of just calling it that the crazy, looney-tunes woman who occasionally comes out, who I know for sure is not “me”, I can now call it the “pain-body”.
After reading Chapter 5 about the “pain-body” and Chapter 6 about getting rid of the pain body, I have come to some of the same conclusions I had before. It may not always be easy but it is effective.
Change your focus.
When you feel a negative jag coming on, do not participate. Withdraw, do other things, focus on gratitude and happier times, whatever you have to do, do not feed the negativity. Step away, do something different.
I’m reminded of the story about the Indian chief who was sitting in a meditation when a young boy asked him what he was doing. The chief replied “I am considering the wolves that are fighting within me. There are two wolves that are within the depths of my spirit. One is pain, fear, anger and distraction and he is very hungry. The other is Faith, Love, Joy and Focus and he is also very hungry. They are attacking one another and over time, one is sure to win”. The young boy then asked the chief “Which one will win” and the chief replied “The one that I feed”.

I’ve always really enjoyed that story “The Battle Within”… I’ve had it on my site for almost a year now.
It never fails to serve as a great reminder that we truly do choose our reality… and if we choose it, then I’d rather be *consciously* choosing it than unconsciously choosing.
