Life is Only Now
By karen | April 8, 2008

My friend, Chris Cade, from Spiritual Short Stories.com recently answered one of my questions.
On the post, Make a Wish for Love and Peace, as my heart was hurting, I asked
“Why do any of us spend any of the time in our lives in hatred? Why do any of us spend our time fighting against others? What could possibly be so important that is would cause us to lie and deceive in order to hurt another person?”
And Chris, in his wisdom replied that
“What I came to realize is that *everybody* wants to be at peace. It’s easy to see this when we focus on joyful happy thoughts, but what about violence? How can that be somebody wanting peace?
Well, when I thought about why wars are fought… ultimately, it is because the conquerer feels as though if they annihilate everything that opposes them, they will find peace.”
Yes, Chris, I think you are right. I think that they think that “if I do this now, I will then have peace”.
However, the problem lies in the fact that Life is Now. Whatever you are doing at this very moment is what you are spending your precious life on. The promise of the future is only that -“a promise” and the memories of the past are only that - “memories”.
The past and the future exist only within our minds and our hearts as promises and memories but no longer as “life”, the only time we can really live.
Life is only Now.
The time for living is Now. If you are spending any of your life in turmoil and chaos for whatever justification, it matters not. That is how you are spending your life.
I want to spend my life happy, joyful, appreciating, loving, enjoying, having fun. I want to live this moment and every moment in what feels good and what I want. I want to be happy.
I want Peace and Tranquility in my life.
And the only time I know for sure that I can have that is Now.

Living in the Now, how to stop the chatter of our minds and enjoy this moment, what a challenge..
The fast pace of life, the busyness, the things that
have to be done, when we take those quiet times and appreciate the Now, they don’t seem so important, do they?
It’s springtime and all of those birds singing are there for a reason, to awaken us up also. All of those budding bushes, shrubs, and trees, do we even notice them?
En-Joy the Now.

Irene,
and as I peek out my bathroom window I can see the tiny green buds on the lilac bush. Not only that those birds start singing at about 4:45 every morning! It is wonderful, I love it!
It’s true…when we take the time to feel the energy of Now the other things do seem to fall away…
spring is a wonderful season to wake up, I love seeing the forsythia bloomed on the side of my house, the daffodils that I have written about 2x already

The beauty of becoming present in the moment is that we can do it right now
It doesn’t matter if you’re a spiritual guru or a zen master. The now is here for everyone to enjoy if they want it.
The more people who awaken to the now, become non-violent and the more people who read posts like your Karen, the more awakening that is happening on this planet.
Keep up the great work with your blog!
Gary

Hi Karen,
Thank you for the mention, and I’m also grateful that I was able to touch you during a time when your heart was hurting.
It is so easy to get caught in the “If I do this now, then my future will be better” mentality. I know because there are some aspects of my life in which I still live in that place, and it’s a big challenge for me.
I keep telling myself, “One day I will leave my corporate job and just help people for a living.” One day… one day… I keep telling myself.
But when I really dig deep, I think the truth is I’m not quite ready for that. Having a wife and son, I don’t feel confident enough that the universe will support and lift me if I were to just quit my job and follow my dreams.
Some might call that practical, or cowardly, or any other number of things. I’m not sure what I’d call it, except to note that I am aware of my hearts’ desires… I work towards fulfilling them every night after my wife and son go to sleep.
“One day… one day…”

Chris,
Actually until you can have complete Faith that you are doing the right thing and that all will be okay, I don’t believe that you should make the move.
Abraham says that you should “never step forward in the face of fear” and that resonates so deeply with me. So much more so that “feel the fear and do it anyway”. So ease into it. Dream more, visualize more, construct it in your mind more.
Do more dreaming and visualizing and the inspired actions will come.
Have you ever read the works of Neville? He writes extensively on using your imagination to achieve and get where you want to go.
But one word of advice…in your mind do not make it “one day”. See it as already happening, feel it as already achieved, feel what it is like as the end result….if it is in your mind and visualizations as “one day” it will remain as “one day” but if it is in your mind as “achieved” it will be “achieved”.
(p.s. Kevin and I have both worked exclusively from home since 2001. It can be done!)
