Acceptance, Enjoyment, Enthusiasm
By karen | May 7, 2008
The biggest webinar in history, Oprah and Eckhart Tolle’s, A New Earthis now history itself. While I loved the entire book, there was a part in the last chapter that I thought was so wise that I really wanted to share it here. Mr. Tolle called it the modalities of “Awakened doing” or bringing more consciousness into your life. I am just going to say that if you want to live a happier, more empowered life this is very good advice. It’s all about the energy that you bring and the energy that you radiate.
None of us have a perfect life. Challenges affect us all but it is what we do with those challenges that determine the quality and the Joy in the life that we lead.
According to “The New Earth” the three modalities are Acceptance, Enjoyment and Enthusiasm.
Acceptance. We all have things in our lives that we would rather not deal with; traffic jams, snowstorms, tedious chores, difficult people. But we have a choice. What is… is. We can bitch and moan and complain and carry on either mentally or even physically but that just disperses and wastes our precious energy. Accept what is. Do what you can (as quickly as possible is just fine) and move on. Don’t waste your precious resources and energies by mentally and emotionally fighting reality. When you fight against reality you lose…. but only 100% of the time.
For now, this is what this situation, this moment,
requires of me to do, and so I do it willingly”

Enjoyment. When you can actually enjoy what you are doing you bring a sense of aliveness to yourself and to the world. Be present with what you do. Life and living is not in the end result or disignated at a future time but life and living is in the journey. Now.
The counsel of Zen reminds us to be one with what we do. When we sweep the floor, we need to be sweeping the floor, moving the broom and gathering the dust and not caught up in next weeks challenges or the turmoil from 10 years ago. Now is the only time you can live your life. Be one with Now.
your ability to enjoy what you do-and with it the quality of your life- increases dramatically”

Enthusiasm. When you add in an inspired vision or goal along with the excitement your creativity soars. There is deep enjoyment and an enormous intensity and energy behind what you do. Enthusiasm takes over and you resonate with the creative power of the Universe.
And all you have to do is “ride the wave”. ”

I absolutely loved A New Earth, the book and the class at Oprah.com. I did not miss one class and the book has become one of my favorites from all time. Many, many “aha” moments as Oprah calls them.
If you did not catch the webinar this time you can still have the experience. You can download the classes for free on Oprah.com and/or Itunes. Or there will be another opportunity. You can participate in the Summer session that starts on June 16. I don’t know if it will be a repeat of the past classes or if Eckhart and Oprah will be starting anew but either way I recommend it. I might even do it again. If you are ready you’ll enjoy it.
There was quite a bit of talk about the Ego which actually clarified so many things for me by giving it a clear description. The way I see it is that it is not so much about denouncing our egos but rather getting past our egos so we can connect back to our own Source, our highest selves.
When we connect to that larger part of ourselves we can find the peace and the purpose that we all long for in our lives.
It’s about the energy that you bring, the energy that you contribute, your vibrational countenance. And isn’t that what we always talk about here at Live the Power?

Thanks for writing a summary about what this book is about. I’m hoping to read it soon.
A buddhist monk recently gave me the very same advice: Be in the Now even while cooking or doing housework. I doubt that he read Eckhart books’ though.

I haven’t read the book or listened to the webinars, but what you describe really resonates. It describes the transformation I’ve been experiencing over the last few years, and also helps to reinforce my continuing to experience and embody that as often and deep as possible.
It helps that my son serves as the perfect example for me to follow. I find it ironic how children often grow up saying they want to be just like their parents… I grow up every day saying I want to be just like my son!

You’re right Chris, children are often so much more connected to their Source than we are…they haven’t had it trained out of them yet!
Abraham has often said that the “wee ones are the teachers” and that the adults need to learn from them. I couldn’t agree more.
The book is a definite “must read”. Especially for someone who is interested in Spiritual Development.
Evelyn,
Like I said above the book is a definite “must read”. Eckhart seems to have many things from the spiritual traditions. The Buddhist Monk may not have read Eckhart but it would seem that Eckhart has picked up some of the deepest teachings from Buddhism, Christianity and more.

Karen,
A New Earth is on my list of books to read. I’ve heard it’s quite good. =)
I think the main point is as you said, to go past the ego. To no longer identify solely with it, but to transcend and include it.

It really is an excellent book. I really enjoyed it and I was resistant to read it at first since Oprah was telling me to! But I’m glad I did.

Karen,
Thanks for another great post. I couldn’t agree with you more, “A New Earth” is phenomenal! For all of you who are having doubts about reading it, I hope you will take a chance and try it - you will be so glad that you did. For anyone who has concerns about religious conflicts, Eckhart and Oprah discuss it on several occasions on the webinar. I believe that most people feel it has strengthened their beliefs as so many of us are striving to become more conscious.

I have never read a more impacting book. it took surrender and acceptance to go the whole mile of workign through this book, word by word, chapter by chapter…but the gifts resonate in my life. I am thrilled, excited, enthused and cannot wait to fianlly experience what is my lfie. I am…I am!

I had some resistance to reading it at the beginning….if Oprah wouldn’t have given us weeks to get ready, I would have skipped it just because she said to read it! But it worked out that I let go of the resistance and read it…I am so glad I did. It truly impacted my life in a positive manner too!
I was even thinking today that the “pain-body” has not taken over since I read about that….that in itself is amazing and wonderful!
I am so grateful! reading it again and again!
