Prosperity Consciousness
By karen | May 27, 2008
If you listen to the news you’ll hear it. The price of Gas is high. The cost of the Memorial day barbeque has gone up. Bread and Milk prices have increased. And on and on, yada, yada, yada, blah, blah, blah, for as long as you would like to listen.
I stopped listening.
We create our own reality by virtue of what we focus on. I choose to not listen to the negative blips about what is going on in the world and to only focus upon the good things, the Abundance, the Well-Being that this Universe really is. There really are more good things in our Universe than not. I choose to focus on those things.
Somebody I know called me irresponsible. But is that the truth?
The truth is just the practiced thought that one continues to think.
The truth is that there are always people who are creating magnificent things, who create massive abundance, who do well and create great lives regardless of the economy and even in the so-called worst of times. It’s also true that there are people who do poorly, never rising above the break even point, even in the best of times.
The times have nothing to do with our flow of Abundance.
We create our own reality by what we focus on.
The late and great Earl Nightingale has an audio course called “The Strangest Secret”. In the course he tells of a neighborhood where he grew up. It was a poor neighborhood and most of the people were very poverty conscious. One of the things that illustrated their poverty consciousness was that when their old pants got holes in the knees or the seat or wherever from regular wear and tear they did not “think” about going out and buying a new pair of pants. No, they thought about how they could best mend the old pants. How could they put a patch on the holes in their pants so that they could get more wear out of them? How could they put patches on their old clothes so that they would not have to buy new ones?
So are you watching the news and fretting about the cost of this and that? Are you trying to get your old stuff to last longer? Are you making do or doing without because of the news?
Or are you creating Abundance?
I don’t want to put any patches on my old clothes. I want to buy new ones. If gas and bread cost more then I will just have to make more money. It’s the only thing that makes sense to me.
I choose Abundance.
I choose Prosperity Consciousness.
I choose to create the reality that I want.

It’s true, Karen, that the media has been full of messages of lack recently.
However, I have a question about abundance and prosperity thinking. Is it possible to think about extending the use of my current possessions not out of a poverty mindset, but out of appreciation for the earth and our natural resources? What do you feel about that?

Hi Maria,
Yes, Absolutely….but it has to do with your intention and vibration….if you are doing it out of appreciation, love, reverence for the earth then the vibration is high and the energy you give is empowered….you are not focused upon “lack” but rather appreciation of the abundance….can you feel the difference?
(perhaps I will write a post about that…thank you for the inspiration!)

Like you, I don’t watch the news or read the newspaper. I actually stopped doing so many years ago, and my life is more joyful to it.
For all those who criticize not watching the news and being ‘aware,’ I wonder how many of them go down to the soup kitchen or women’s shelters and personally lend a hand.
Many people think that being ‘aware’ is just watching, but they miss the point that it’s so much deeper than that… being ‘aware’ means actually having an energetic relationship to what is being discussed.
So in the case of being ‘aware’ of what’s going on in the world… you and I still have that energetic relationship even if our mind isn’t involved.
Subtle, yet I would gather much of the world doesn’t understand this which results in great confusion, pain, and suffering.

I agree with you Chris and I think that the “awareness” is more than just watching.
One thing that I believe is that if there is something that I absolutely “need” to know that the Universe will bring it to my attention….it’s having “Faith” that I will know what I need to know when I need to know it. I can relax and know that the Universe is a friendly, loving and abundant place…..

Hi Karen, I’ve also previously written an article on what it means to be wealth conscious. So I definitely agree with what you are saying here.
I consciously choose not to focus on the rising prices of food and oil. I got to admit that it sounds ridiculous that I do not watch the TV news all that much. I still keep tabs on what is going on but not surround myself excessively in negative news!
Thanks for sharing,
Evelyn

Hi Karen,
I also consciously choose not to focus on the negative. I don’t watch the news, read the paper or listen to the media at all. The media has a skewed portrayal of reality. In essence, tragedy sells.
Ultimately the greatest abundance we can realize is our oneness with everything. In that we can see abundance is constantly overflowing within us. When we know our true nature, we can give the gift of the sky.

Yes! I love your perspective. I’m all for being irresponsible in terms of buying into society’s predominant mindset of poverty and lack.
Oh, and forget about patches. You know you’ve made it when you can pay $80 for a pair of jeans to proudly display those holes in the knees.

They called you irresponsible and I get called unrealistic, just for seeing the brighter side of things. Some folks with a negative baseline just have to watch the news so they can react exactly as the news broadcasters hope we do. The heck with that. We are at choice over what goes into and comes out of our minds. It’s kind of crazy to think about things that you would not want to bring about.
You are right on with this statement. “The truth is just the practiced thought that one continues to think.”

Karen - that has been true for me too… if I “need” to know, the universe will find a way to get me the information (either by my own curiosity, or by some other source presenting the information to me).
I am excited to see what an intuition and awareness based world might look like, but I will not hold my breath.
Like Mike in Stranger in a Strange Land says, “I am in waiting.”

Hi Karen,
So true. I turned on the tv the other morning because I wanted to catch the weather but it wasn’t quite time so I was hearing the mornings’ news about the economy and the condition of our country and such and it literally made me sick. Not necessarily the state of things but the complete negativity and the way the media was playing it out. Needless to say, I turned the tv off, no longer caring what the weather was going to be. I’m sure that many people do not even realize how adversely this affects them inside.
Love your posts,
Tbea

Tbea,
Just turn it off, we just can’t let it affect us…we create our lives….nothing else does!
Thank you…you made my day! (and I am reminded that I truly love to write…it’s a joy when someone else appreciates it too!)

This is so true! I started my “journey to the center of me” about a year ago. I decided that it was time to take control of my life; it was also time for me to take responsibility for it. It’s been one heck of a ride!
I was introduced to The Secret and since then I’ve been reading more books and listening to programs such as Hay House. I’ve been working on prosperity for quite some time. I believe it’s starting to sink into my consciousness. I just have to get out of my way and put my story to rest once and for all! The time is now!
One more thing: if people purchase the SUV or luxury vehicle, they can afford the gas for it or they can do something about it. Either trade in the gas guzzler or bring in more income. The choice is theirs! Here’s to changing your thoughts and your life! I’m working on it!

I think It’s all about thinking, If you made up your mind to think about prosper, you will prosper & vice versa, & with the will of God of course.

I’m totally with you, Karen! We used to have weekly meetings with “environmental mastery” where the manager would ask 5 questions about what went on in the world last week.
I never knew the answers because I, too, gave up on listening to the negative news. (He finally gave up on asking, btw…)
I choose to focus on the abundance and prosperity available to all and be grateful for it!
Irresponsible? I think not…
Possible? You betcha.
