What if…?
By karen | July 10, 2008
It has occurred to me that the collective consciousness is not necessarily playing the “what if” game in the most productive manner. Now this is just my own opinion of course but if we accept that our thoughts and our words are creating our lives then why on earth would we speculate in such a negative direction when playing the “what if” game as this question that I saw yesterday?
“What if gas prices got to be $**** per gallon?
(what? Did you think that I was going to join in on that pitiful party and say out loud how much? Not me!)
It’s fun to play “what if”. We all enjoy the game of speculating on what the future may hold but some speculations should be reserved just for entertainment purposes, novels and movies. For example,
“What if a giant asteroid hit the earth?”
Yes, that is a subject that could be (and has been) a fun movie or an entertaining read but in real life? No. Don’t think so.
So when you are playing “what if” in real life, play it in a productive, creative way. Rather than thinking about “what if” and following it with a huge catastrophe, follow it with something that you really want, that really makes you happy, and that you would really love to create in your life.
For example…..(this one is for everybody)
“What ……if we could really have world peace?”
Or we could turn that first one around…..
“What if …..the price of gas went down to $***”
Or even better
“What if….. there was so much money that the price of gas didn’t even matter ?”
And since you are speculating for your own future, play your own “what if”.
“What if __________ really happened? (Fill in the blank with your own dreams).
If you are going to play the “what if” game play it in a manner that serves you. You don’t really want a catastrophe in your life, so stop speculating on that and start speculating on the life that you really want!

Great reminder about the fact that we have a choice in the ‘what if’ games we play, Karen - thanks so much for that!
My ‘what if’s after reading it?
- “What if I really did rediscover how to find balance in my life?”
- “What if I got rid of this cough once and for all?”
- “What if I got an entire week’s worth of really good nights’ sleep..?”
Just thinking about it makes me smile

And that smile feels good….and that is the point, to feel good so that your point of attraction can bring you all of those things.
Just asking the question can start things going!

My “what if”…
“What if everybody lived so completely in the moment, that they forgot all concept of ‘what if’?”

Good one, Chris!
(but sometimes I LOVE to fill my now with anticipation and excitment over creating my future! For example I love to daydream about my houseboat on Lake Powell, the Grand Piano in my living room,…..and……and…..Ah, Anticipation….is making me wait, it’s keeping me waiting….can you hear the music? I can…but I love that song so it can sing in my head all day)

How’s this for great: playing the “what if” game bypasses my internal naysayer! I don’t hear any “yeah buts” or “it’ll never happen.” I just get an overall good feeling. Thanks so much for this.

It does! no “yeah, but’s” and that is a very good thing!
