The Amazon Kindle

By karen | October 24, 2008

It may be a book lovers dream!

Since I started writing here I have made no secret of my love of books and reading. From the 1500+ books (yes, it’s grown lately!) in my basement to the 20 to 30 books that I always have checked out at the library, it is a fact that I love books. Love, love, love books!

So when the Amazon Kindle came out I wondered how it would compare. I mean, you can’t turn pages and it doesn’t smell like a real book but think about this….you can download ebooks from your computer and snuggle down under the covers in your bed to read them rather than sitting at your computer. And snuggling down under the covers in the winter or spreading out on a hammock in the summer to read a book is much better than sitting at any computer! Even a laptop is too big to make comfort with.

Okay, that settles it.
I want it!!

So I checked it out. Some of the benefits that I liked were….

Lighter and thinner than a typical paperback; weighs only 10.3 ounces.
(that works. Will it fit in my pocket? I want it!)

Free book samples. Download and read first chapters for free before you decide to buy.
(whoohoo, I do occasionally buy a book that was not worth the paper it was written on—check it out first? I want it!)

Buy a book and it is auto-delivered wirelessly in less than one minute.
(Instant gratification! I want it!)

Wow, it sounds way cool. It really does. I admit I do want it.

I’m sure it is very, very cool.

But will it ever really, truly, completely take the place of real live, hardback, paperback, real paper books? Well for a girl who owns 1500+ books and loves every one of them…..

Not likely.

But I want it anyway!

(Santa, are you listening?)
