Que Sera, Whatever Will Be
By karen | November 4, 2008
Well it’s the big day. Seems like it’s taken quite awhile for us to get to November 4th. But now the end is nearly here, just hours away.
I’ve paid attention much more this year than I ever have before. The Internet is a pretty amazing thing when it comes to things such as politics. Never before has there been such a platform to tell so many people your opinions.
I suspect that if people are true to their word then tomorrow there will be a mass exodus out of the USA. On the political blogs and articles that I have been reading people on both sides of the issues have proclaimed emphatically in their comments that if their own candidate does not win then they will move away to Canada, Mexico, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand… and the like. And since there will only be one winner, if people are to be true to their word, the ones on the other side will need to start packing.
(don’t let the door hit you….
…naw, just kidding!)
I suppose that most people will calm down after it’s over and not really hightail it out of here but you never know!
What surprises me is how much power over their own lives all of these people are giving to the President of the United States. Just yesterday I received an email from a well known copywriter (who just happens to send regular emails to the list that I’m on). He had posted on his blog about how one of the candidates is going to make it very difficult for regular people to get rich and how we had better get used to it.
Huh?
If he wishes to believe that he can. If his readers wish to buy into that theory that is their prerogative.
I, however, refuse to give the president or the government that much power.
I create my own life.
Sure there will be some changes. There needs to be some changes. And both candidates are promising change.
We can all give the reasons why we think our candidate is the best man for the job and regardless of your political leanings you would have to agree that whoever gets to be the new President definitely has an enormous job ahead of him.
But he will not have the impossible job of fixing your life. He is not responsible for making your life better.
And most importantly the President will not under any circumstances have the power to be able to make it more difficult for you to create the life that you want.
He just doesn’t have that much power, unless of course, you give it to him by buying into that kind of nonsense.
You create your own life. Make it what you want it to be.
Whatever will be, will be. Let’s make the best of it.
