Thanksgiving

By karen | November 21, 2006

This week in the U.S. we are celebrating Thanksgiving on Thursday. Friday will herald in the Christmas Season, as some will continue to celebrate by making that day the biggest shopping day of the year. I know that there are many people from other countries that are reading this today so I want to offer a special invitation to consciously reflect on the things you have in your life to be grateful for on Thursday and vicariously participate in our Gratitude Holiday.

When you consciously practice Gratitude, Thanksgiving takes on the meaning it was meant to have.  Thanksgiving is more than just a feast and a bunch of football games before the shopping games begin.  Thanksgiving is a day to reflect, remember and resonate with the best things in your life.  It is a day to celebrate the bounteous harvest and the joys of a life of freedom.

We all have the freedom to determine our own thoughts and our own attitudes.  Every one of us on this Earth has something to be grateful for, the abundance of the Universe, the awe of nature, the love of family and friends.

And Gratitude is such an empowering emotion.  It feels good to be grateful.  If you want to be really happy in your life, you have the tools just like any one else in the world.  Find the things you are grateful for and focus on those things.  Think about the experiences in your life that you wouldn’t change for the world.  Think about the experiences that made you stronger and made you the amazing individual you are today.

Think about the people you Love and focus on how you can Love them more, not on how you can make them love you more or what they can do for you, but on how you can Love them more and what you can do for them.

Go outside and drink up the awesome beauty of nature. Watch the sunrise.  Watch the sunset.  See the energy in the trees and the plants.  Spend some time watching an ant colony.  If you live by mountains like I do, just look up at their majestic peaks and see the awe-inspiring, incredible beauty of their changing scenery.  See the extraordinary colors of a storm-ridden sky as it changes from the blues to deep grays before the lightning show starts.  Hear the thunder and feel the energy shift as the storm begins and try to catch the rainbow when the storm is over.  You will feel Awe.

And there you have it, a short and sweet practical demonstration on how to be happy.

Gratitude, Love and Awe– if you focus on these three emotions, happiness will never elude you.

Enjoy your Holiday and be Grateful.

Joy and Blessings,

Karen
