Hug a Thug Day
By karen | December 9, 2006
Bet you never heard of that one before. One of my new friends recently emailed me with this great idea–To create a day to make amends, to send good thoughts out to people that perhaps we feel are our enemies, to people we dislike, to the people we are fearful of. And of course we shall call this new holiday “Hug a Thug” day!
Since we would normally not send these people our best thoughts what would happen? I absolutely believe that we would feel better and be at a better place but could something like this actually have an impact on the world?
In the movie “What the Bleep do we know?” they talked of an experiment where violent crime was reduced in Washington D.C. by an amazing 24% just by having a large group of people spend time meditating. The experiment took place in June-July 1993. You can read the details of that experiment here http://istpp.org/crime_prevention/
Could a Hug-a-Thug Day have a similar effect?
Wouldn’t it be wonderful if it did!

Thanks Karen. Lets look at what is happening today. War against terror, Iraq war, India and Pakistan, War in Africa, Israel and Palestine etc..etc…
If we closely observe, the war is actually between the ego and the individual. Its the ego that wants more of the territory or superiority. Thats one reason why nobody could come up with a peace treaty. Even if somebody comes up with a plan it wont be long before ego creates another war. Until each one of us make a conscious decision to overcome our ego, there will be violence in this world.
HUG A THUG DAY is an attempt to achieve world peace in this world, and attempt to leave this world better for our future generation.

I used to have a really hard time with accepting rapist, murderers, and the like. Admittedly I still have to talk myself through it but, I have made great strides. What has helped me is knowing that we are all part of one big picture. Without every piece(everybody) the world would be off balance.
