Follow your Own Heart
By karen | December 10, 2006
I have a magnet on my refrigerator that I got as a freebie in a box of tea from a few years ago. It’s not as colorful or beautiful as some of the others but the words on it give it the prominent place it has on my fridge.
“The wisest follow their own direction”
-Euripides-
How true! There is no one else on this earth more qualified to know what is right for you than you are! You are the only one who really knows what is in your heart and soul and what will really make you happy. But in this world of experts and authorities, parents, friends, neighbors and guru’s there is always someone lined up to give you advice on how to live, what to do, how to do it, and all of the who, what, where, when, whys and how’s of life.
Other people can inspire you. Other people can motivate you. Other people can give you wonderful and joyful thoughts to ponder but your own “Inner Guide” is the only one who can really tell you if it is right for you. Other people should never decide your Life; that is your job! Take the good from what you hear and learn and read about from others and disregard the rest.
You will know if it is good and right for you by the way that you feel. If it feels good and joyful then it is suited for you and will benefit your life. But sometimes what you hear gives you that knot of discomfort and anxiety in your tummy and if you really listen to your heart and soul you know that it is not right for you.
At different times in my life I have found myself wanting to accomplish different things and I have sought out people who have already succeeded at the goal I wanted. Sometimes I could take their advice and it felt good and it felt right and I was able to accomplish also. But other times, the advice I was given was not right for me. Every time I knew because every time I got that bad feeling in my gut, but there were many times that I would override those feelings and press on to Massive Failure! If I felt those feelings of anxiety and discomfort I never was able to reach my goal. Never. I really hope that I have learned to listen to my own “Inner Guide”. It has never led me in a wrong direction and I know that it never will. Yours won’t either if you learn to listen to your own heart and soul.
You are the only one who will absolutely be with you every single day of your life. Become your own best friend and take your own advice. You’ll know by how it makes you feel. Feel Good!
So I hope I give you wonderful and joyful thoughts to contemplate but you are the only one who really knows what feels right for your life.
Listen to your own heart; it will never lead you astray!

I think we were all given an internal “North Star” at birth. We call it intuition.

This is truly an inspiring quote!I also got it from my purchase of a box of celestial seasonings tea, and I keep the magnet on my fridge door. It is now my favorite saying of all time, and is my signature in my emails.

Mamie,
It looks as if we drink the same kind of tea, as that was where I got the magnet too!
