The Power of Your Thoughts

By karen | December 10, 2006

If you realized how powerful your thoughts are,
You would never think a negative thought.
Peace Pilgrim
1908-1981

When I first started putting together the Live the Power presentation I had never heard of Peace Pilgrim.  But I came across this quote and I was struck by it.  I knew I had to include it in the presentation.

Peace Pilgrim was a woman who walked over 25,000 miles across the U.S. from the period of 1953 to 1981 spreading her message that “This is the way of Peace: Overcome evil with good, falsehood with truth, and hatred with love.”  Her only possessions were the clothes she wore and the things she could carry in the pockets of her tunic.  She would walk until given shelter and fast until given food.

Her pilgrimage covered the entire peace picture: peace among nations, groups, individuals and the very important Inner Peace, because that is where she felt all peace begins.

A really amazing part of this story is the fact that in walking across the United States for over 28 years, Peace Pilgrim was never the victim of any crime, injury, accident or sickness.  She claimed to have never even had a cold.  She also missed very few meals and rarely slept outside without shelter because people came to her aid.  She created her life by her thoughts and she truly realized and lived this quote.  She was one who truly “walked her talk”.   She stressed that a persons bad thoughts and negativity don’t hurt anyone but themselves.  She was right.

I struggle with keeping my thoughts positive often.  I have improved dramatically and I am getting better and better but occasionally those nagging thoughts of doubt and despair and negativity creep in.  And then there are those habitual thoughts that you don’t even realize are negative!  But recently I came across a fun little game to expose those thoughts.  It really works!  I wrote about it at As you wish…Create Your Life
Please go read it.  It is worth your time.

As you concentrate on the giving, you discover that just as you cannot receive without the giving, so neither can you give without receiving-even the most wonderful things like health and happiness and inner peace. There is a feeling of endless energy-it just never runs out; it seems to be as endless as air. You just seem to be plugged into the source of universal energy.” Excerpted from the free pamphlet “Steps Toward Inner Peace” By Peace Pilgrim […]
