Your Gifts of Imperfection

By karen | December 18, 2006

Use the talents you possess,

for the woods would be silent

if no birds sang except the best.

How often do we refuse to share our gifts and our talents out of fear?  Fear that we are perhaps not as talented as someone else, fear that no one will notice our gifts, fear that we’ll end up looking stupid and foolish?  How often do our own doubts in ourselves hold us back?

I recently came across a beautiful story at the Tao of Simplicity blog called “The Cracked Pot”.  In the story the pot was upset because it was not able to perform what it thought was its purpose, yet in the “not performing” it was able to give an even greater gift.

It was the perceived imperfection that created the beauty on the path.  Same with us, if we wait until we think it’s perfect, the world will miss out on our gifts.  And Life doesn’t always turn out like we thought it would.  Sometimes, just like the cracked pot, our gift is even more than we had imagined it could be.

Everyone has there own “cracks”, it is our choice what significance this will have on our lives. I choose to see these “cracks” as blessings, and as gifts that we have been given in order to help us fullfill our own destiny.
