Holiday Prep
By karen | December 22, 2006
Martha is at my house today. She is busily preparing my house for the big holiday. Cleaning and straightening up because Santa does not come to a messy house and Santa is expected at our house on Sunday night. I think he’ll be here late, sometime in the middle of the night.
So Martha is busy, busy, busy.
Martha has been cleaning my house for about 20 years, except for a brief hiatus here and there when I would get tired of her lackadaisical attitude and hire someone else for awhile.
She started back when my son was about knee-high to a grasshopper, just a tiny fellow. She can work really hard and sometimes she does a great job but often she lets things slide. I get the impression that housecleaning is just not her thing. I’m not sure if the problem is Martha or if it is the help she brings with her. Her assistant would much rather surf the Internet or write on the Livethepower Blog or even read a good book. There is always more fun things to do than help Martha clean the house. But Martha requires a great deal of supervision, she just will not work on her own!
So I guess I must go help Martha today instead of enjoying myself here. She absolutely will not get anything done if I don’t give her some assistance.
Imaginary housecleaners are like that…..very high maintenance.
Merry Christmas! Enjoy your Holiday!

Thank you I’m glad you enjoyed it. Martha is not the best housekeeper but she’ll do in a pinch!

I will not be the least bit surprized the day you hire a whole houseful of housekeepers in real life. It is obvious that you have this visualization down pat.

[...] I guess today we will have to spend some quality time with “Big Bertha” the snowblower and “Martha” the imaginary housecleaner. Santa is expected at our house in the next few weeks so there will also be some getting ready for that! At least I don’t have to shop today! [...]

Maybe Martha should look into hiring a new assistant.

Excellent idea Rick!!
I’m thinking a “Green” assistant who brings her own stuff would be just perfect!

Grace,
Actually I had Martha before Martha Stewart became famous!! Had her for a long time!

Hey, is Martha available for other jobs? I could sure use her… even if she does get lazy at times, she’ll do a better job than I do!
Thanks for the smile, Karen!

I’m pretty sure that Martha is available anytime, any place!
I’ll send her to you by email attachment!

[...] The grocery shopping is done. Santa is scheduled to arrive sometime late on Monday night or early Tuesday morning. Martha is preparing the house because everyone knows that Santa doesn’t come to a messy house. I keep reminding the girls and they happily comply. That is so nice! [...]

[...] But while I may love to have the house clean, I do not love to clean it. (That’s one reason why I have Martha, but she is soooo high maintenance!) So that is my bad habit. I’m not a great housekeeper. The natural neat freaks out there would have you believe that my brain is somewhat scrambled since my desk is somewhat messy ( I read other websites, I know!). I prefer to think that I am more of an artsy, fartsy, creative type that is more inclined to make a mess and clean it up! Yes, that is me! Many different projects, many different times, many different messes! That’s right, Artistic and Creative! (….or maybe scrambled brains, who really knows?) [...]
