Ageless

Life is what we make it, always has been, always will be.
Grandma Moses 1860-1961
Grandma Moses is one of my heroes. She lived a pretty amazing life. I have to admit that it was not her art that captured my attention. Grandma Moses shares my same birthday. When I found that out I wanted to learn more about her. Maybe that birthday thing can confer some of that spirit and initiative on me. Probably not, I know that kind of thing has to come from inside my own soul and birthdays have nothing to do with it. (No offense to any astrologers out there!)
Grandma Moses became one of the most famous American folk artists in history. She painted scenes from rural America that are still famous today.
But the amazing thing about Grandma Moses is that she never even painted anything until she was in her 70’s. Yes that would be seven zero, seven decades plus.
At a time when many people start slowing down Grandma Moses was starting a new career. That impresses me. She lived her life and created her masterpieces up until the end. She passed in 1961 at the ripe old age of 101.
Life is what we make it and yes it always has been and yes it always will be. That will never change. I admire people who are not afraid to start new endeavors and especially the ones who do not let something like age stop them. I believe we are here to learn, grow and create and it doesn’t stop because we start getting older.
Grandma Moses did not get older; she got better. We all have the capacity to continue to live, learn, grow and contribute for our entire lives but not everyone uses it.
Grandma Moses can be an inspiration to us all.

[...] 3. I want to be healthy and strong and vibrant well into my old age. I want to continue to do anything I want to do, physical or otherwise, until I am old, old, old. Just last week some 95-year old (or so) man challenged Jack LaLanne, who is also in his 90’s, to a boxing match. I admire that. Grandma Moses, (who shares my same birthday by the way!) started painting in her 70’s. I admire people who don’t let age stop them. With age comes Wisdom. I want to age gracefully and well and continue to contribute to the world until I am old, very, very old. [...]

What an inspiring story for those who may think that they are too old.
