In the 11 Forgotten Laws Bob Proctor and Mary Morrissey discuss the sixth Law of the Universe, the Law of Compensation.

Although most people would associate money with this law, the truth is that we can be paid in 3 ways: Happiness, Wealth and Health. These are the 3 currencies of the universe.

Our level of compensation is entirely dependent on the image we hold of ourselves in our mind. Bob Proctor gave an example of a fish shop where the owners were unorganised, untidy and were often late with deliveries. The fish shop soon failed. Shortly after, new owners came in who kept the shop organised, tidy and delivered on time. They had a different image of themselves and their business in their mind and, as a result, they succeeded in exactly the same shop that another person failed in.

In order to be compensated better, it is important to change your self image. Mary Morrissey gives 3 very quick ways to change your self image and how you are compensated:

1) Look to pay your own way – If you look to getting something for nothing, you are working with a contracting energy. Look towards paying your fair share and you will be in line with the energy of the Law of Compensation.

2) Look for value instead of price – If you first look at price and seek out the cheapest things, you are again working with a contracting energy. Look for value and work with this abundant energy.

3) Pay your bills on time and with gratitude – We all have bills to pay. However, the way in which we pay our bills determines how we work with this law. When you are next paying your telephone bills, be grateful of all of the phone calls you could make because of it. When you are paying your electricity bill, be grateful for everything in your home that is run by electricity. By doing this, you will start working with a positive energy that works in harmony with the Law of Compensation.

Take some time today to apply the Law of Compensation. Are you happy with how life is compensating you? If not, which of the 3 factors that Mary Morrissey gave can you change to ensure that you work in line with this law?

It?s almost impossible to listen to the news these days without hearing about the economy. The economy has moved up to front and center in the Presidential campaign and of course the 700 billion dollar ?bailout? or ?rescue? (however you choose to describe it) plan is on top of the news. Apparently the House of Representatives has now passed the bill.

So with all of this news there are some who believe that we are in dire straits. In fact, just a day or so ago I heard a woman say out loud that ?Nobody has any money!?

My question is?..Where?s the money? What happened to the money? If all the money is gone and now nobody has any money what happened to the money?

Did it all burn up in a fire?

Did it magically disappear into never-never land?

Did the bad guys swoop in and steal all of the money away from the rest of the world?

Of course, there have been some challenges with the economy. Did all of those challenges just erase all of the money?

What happened? Where?s the money?

Think about it. Common sense says that the money is still there. It?s always been there, it is there now and it will always be there.

There is still an abundance of wealth in the world. We create our own realities. There is no lack in the world. There is only lack in our lives because that is what we have focused upon and that is what we have created.

Focus upon abundance in all things. Focus upon wealth in all things. Focus upon what you want in all things.

You create your own reality.

(This post was inspired by Frank Kern, who just happened to make about $750,000.00 on the same day as Black Monday #2, the day of the largest stock market drop in US history. How much money will you make if there is a recession? What will you focus on?
Fear? Or Opportunity?)

Imagine a balance beam, you know the kind that the gymnasts use in the Olympics. A balance beam is 5 meters or about 16.4 feet long and 10 cm or 4 inches wide.
So imagine that this beam is flat to the floor and you are asked to walk across it. Do you have any doubts that you can do it? Easy, right? You may lose your balance a bit but it is likely that you dont have any fear about walking across the beam.

So now put that beam up to the regulation height of 125 cm or about 4.5 feet high. Now think about walking across it.

Do you have more trepidation this time?

Next imagine the same beam, the same piece of wood balanced between two large building that are say&
30 stories high. What do you think about walking across it now?

My guess is that the higher the beam goes into the air, the more frightened you become of that little walk. Yet, it is the same beam, it is still just a short walk of 16.4 feet balanced on a 4 inch plank. It is essentially the same walk.

The difference is your perception.

Now consider this. Circus performers walk tight ropes and do wild things at great heights all the time. If they share the same fears we do then somehow they overcome them and they do it anyway.

The gymnasts not only walk across the beam but they do back handsprings, aerials and turns, leaps and dance poses. All you had to imagine was walking across. The gymnasts have overcome any doubts and fears that they have while the typical, normal adult is too scared to even try.

And the difference is perception. The circus performers and the gymnasts have learned to overcome their fears and do it anyway.

Now, lets shift to something that you can probably relate to.

Think about taking a trip, a trip of a lifetime, to someplace that you have always dreamed of going. You call the airline and the tickets are $25.00. Wow, pocket change, whoohoo, going on a trip! Easy, fun, effortless! How lucky you are!

Now imagine the same trip…..you have always dreamed of going……its still the trip of a lifetime but now the tickets are $2500.00.&.or $25,000.00.&. or (are you ready for this?) $250,000.00.

How lucky do you feel now to be taking that trip of a lifetime?

Its still the same trip. But your feelings about the trip have changed.

At what point does your heart stop and you say I cant do that!.

Its all a matter of perception.

There are people in the world who would not flinch at the price of $250,000.00 or even more for the trip of a lifetime and there are people in the world who would flinch at $250.00 and probably even at $25.00.
(reminder: this is not a conversation about value and worth but rather a conversation about perceptions).

So which one are you?

If you cant even imagine having something that you would want, if you cant even imagine having an abundance of money, love, time, energy, health, whatever it may be that is your wildest dream&.

If you cant imagine your wildest dream then you cant achieve it.

But if you can imagine your dream, you can have it.

And imagining it is all a matter of perception.

You know the kind, how to drum up business, how to make money, how to put more and more money into the pockets of the trainers, how to spend days and days away and avoid working all while under the pretense of learning more (actually, Im kidding about the last ones&.well mostly kidding!).

There was one trainer who seemed to be quite popular with the Top Producers. And since I was trying to swim up that damn waterfall and fighting against that current to try to be something that I wasnt (I was definitely on the wrong path but like so many people I thought Well Ive worked so hard and I make decent money, what is my problem? Is being happy all that important? It turns out that yes, it really is that important&all of the things that I wanted so desperately at that time never came until I let go of that impossibility&.But that is another post, another day) I tried to follow him for awhile too. Misery! It was pure misery for me! This guy was really hardcore sales. One of the things that he promoted was a 5 minute listing presentation, yep, walk in the door, shove the contract in their face and tell them to sign here. I never could quite feel good about that. It seemed that this trainer taught his followers to only think about themselves and their business . Which is okay but I just couldnt bring myself to feel good about it.

Later on, after struggling too long, I found out about a different trainer, one whose message was much closer to my own values and beliefs. One that had I stayed in the business, I could have followed.
I spent a couple of days in beautiful Portland, Oregon at one of his seminars and I really felt good about how he was teaching us to handle our business.
One of the most memorable things and the first assignment that he had us do was to construct a mission statement. After we had written the first draft we analyzed what we had written. On the first draft many of the people there (and even though I dont really recall probably myself included) had things like
My mission is to list so many houses and sell so many houses and make so much money.

And then came the Paradigm Shift.

Business is about serving the customer.

So then the mission statement became about how can I serve my customer? What can I do to make life and moving easier for them? and How can I turn them into Raving Fans?

Whoa, that felt so much better than sign here, see you later. That was something I could live with. How can I make this experience better for my clients and customers? It felt good. It felt right. It felt like if that was your focus, then perhaps you would be worth the money they paid you. And that felt like a worthy purpose, a way to be in the business and still be at peace, a way that I could live with.

Well, Im no longer in that business. I dont miss it. But that lesson of the Mission statement has stuck with me. It is a valuable exercise.

How can you make the experience better for your clients and customers? How can you turn them into “Raving Fans”?

There is a new grocery store in my area. Well, perhaps not new as it is just a new location for a store that has been in the area for 50 years or so and it has been open now for a few months. But it is still new.

And down the road and around the corner there is a marketplace with the name of America’s largest retailer on it.

If you’re looking to save money it’s best to go to the marketplace around the corner. If you’re not looking for anything special or different, you’re just needing the basics, it will suffice. They usually do have the bare bones minimum, and sometimes some great prices.

The new store usually (but probably not always) has higher prices but they also have a great selection of anything that you might want. This store is shiny and new and it has a wonderful ambience. You walk in and the wonderful aroma of coffee wafts through the air. To the right is the floral section where there is a wide and beautiful selection of fresh cut flowers and plants. To the left is a coffee bar that serves wonderful fancy coffees, teas, gelato and as my daughters have persistently pointed out to me, Ice Cream.

You walk on through and most of the time they have samples of wonderful foods to try. There is a full salad bar, a place where you can sample and bottle local honey’s, a deli with a plethora of different ready made salad’s and foods, and a bakery where they bake unique and distinctive “Artisan breads” every day. There are so many wonderful breads and every day a special bread of the day. If you want a sample they will slice a piece for you then and there. On Friday’s they bake the most delicious Challah bread that makes the most “delish in a dish” French toast that you can imagine. (shhh, don’t tell my Beachbody.com coach!). At the back of the store there is a Chef, who is always cooking something new and wonderful right in front of you and giving out samples.

It’s always a pleasure to shop at that store.

They must train their employees very well because everyone there treats every customer like royalty. And it works very well for them if I do say so myself. One day while perusing the produce section I ended up buying a cantaloupe, some heirloom tomatoes (yum!) and some nectarines that I had no intention of buying just because the produce guy insisted on helping me find some perfect banana’s. I told him that my family loves banana’s and if it is a banana they’ll eat it but he still helped me find a perfect bunch of banana’s and then of course a cantaloupe, some heirloom tomatoes and the nectarines. I swear I only intended to buy banana’s and romaine.

But good service pays off.

Walking into and shopping at this store makes you feel good. Really good. It makes you feel Abundant and Prosperous, like the world is filled with wonderful things and amazing delicacies just waiting for you to partake.

Like you deserve all the Wealth, Prosperity and Abundance that the world has to offer.

And that is why I shop there. I’m sure that is why many people shop there.

It’s the experience.

And when you focus on and appreciate the good things in life you attract more of the good things in life back to you.

And more often than not, especially if you want to create Abundance, that beats the low prices.

The other day I was driving home from the store and I saw a black car. A really nice black car. I didn’t even know what it was. So I appreciated it for the moment, forgot about it and drove on home.

A day or two later I was with Kevin driving along and we saw the same car.
Kevin remarked “Wow, that is a Bentley” and I responded “Whew, a Bentley?” the question mark hanging in the air.

“yep, that there is about a $250,000.00 car”

“$250,000.00? Hmmm” and we laughed about how it “looked so darn good” and “cost so darn much”. And we happily imagined and visualized having that much money and what we would actually want to have which would probably not be a Bentley but rather a Houseboat on Lake Powell, a Grand Piano, a beautiful second home in the desert……

And we forgot about it again.

The next few days was a chorus of “There’s that Bentley again!” as we saw the same car over and again. It was fun. And as you may have figured out by now that is not the kind of car that we often see around here.

Well today as we were driving we saw another beautiful car. It was silver this time, really beautiful. And of course, I didn’t even know what it was. But Kevin did.

“That is a Maserati”

“Whoohoo, a Maserati? And the only person I know with a Maserati is Joe Walsh”

(Actually I have to admit that I don’t really know Joe Walsh. But I do know that his “Maserati does 185, he lost his license and now he don’t drive!”)

So we appreciated the Maserati and as we were driving down the hill we saw another beautiful silver car but this time I knew what it was, a really beautiful Mercedes convertible. Not a Maserati but still a beautiful Symbol of Wealth. We got into town and as we were pulling into a parking lot we actually saw another one. Another Maserati that is. Two in one day! How often does that happen around here?
We do live in a land of nice cars, but they tend to be SUV’s and minivans and the luxurious among them would be the Escalade in the freak parade. (see the funny video below for reference).

We talked about it, how unusual it was and what it meant.
Those cars are symbols of wealth, the kind of cars that many people dream of, few people own. And we are seeing them all over the place! I’m not even a “car” girl. I don’t dream of cars. I don’t covet a Maserati or a Bentley. But then again, I can’t really imagine what I would think if I saw a Grand Piano rolling down the street and believe you me I already know where every beautiful house in this city is. So how could the Universe send me a sign of a Symbol of Wealth with a piano or a house? And of course, all the decent houseboats are already at the lake.

Cars are perfect.

So we’re seeing our signs. We’re seeing the symbols of Wealth.

And I appreciate it. It couldn’t have been better.

(p.s. I really missed my writing. Today I’m focused on Love and Appreciation for the writing that I love)

It has occurred to me that the collective consciousness is not necessarily playing the “what if” game in the most productive manner. Now this is just my own opinion of course but if we accept that our thoughts and our words are creating our lives then why on earth would we speculate in such a negative direction when playing the “what if” game as this question that I saw yesterday?

“What if gas prices got to be $**** per gallon?

(what? Did you think that I was going to join in on that pitiful party and say out loud how much? Not me!)

It’s fun to play “what if”. We all enjoy the game of speculating on what the future may hold but some speculations should be reserved just for entertainment purposes, novels and movies. For example,

“What if a giant asteroid hit the earth?”

Yes, that is a subject that could be (and has been) a fun movie or an entertaining read but in real life? No. Don’t think so.

So when you are playing “what if” in real life, play it in a productive, creative way. Rather than thinking about “what if” and following it with a huge catastrophe, follow it with something that you really want, that really makes you happy, and that you would really love to create in your life.

For example…..(this one is for everybody)

“What ……if we could really have world peace?”

Or we could turn that first one around…..
“What if …..the price of gas went down to $***”
Or even better
“What if….. there was so much money that the price of gas didn’t even matter ?”

And since you are speculating for your own future, play your own “what if”.

“What if __________ really happened? (Fill in the blank with your own dreams).

If you are going to play the “what if” game play it in a manner that serves you. You don’t really want a catastrophe in your life, so stop speculating on that and start speculating on the life that you really want!

I’m not a big celebrity watcher. For some reason I don’t really enjoy watching train wrecks either. Neither are very appealing to me. My theory is that I would rather create my own life than watch someone else’s.

I tend to believe that celebrities are just ordinary people who have created the circumstance of fame. That’s it. There is nothing special about them. Some of them are talented. Some of them aren’t. Some of them do great work and great things and some of them don’t. And having pictures in all of the tabloids just seems to be part of that train wreck mentality.

Except. Occasionally I will see a celebrity that I really admire. Someone who is a powerful creator who has created a great life. Last night on 60 minutes they had an interview with Will Smith. It definitely engaged my attention. I really admire that guy.

Will said something that perfectly explained his popularity. He said (and I’m paraphrasing as I didn’t write it down, however you can take a look at the you tube video)

“I Love Life, I Love Living. That is something you can’t fake and I think the camera picks up on that”.

Well, personally I don’t think that the camera has anything to do with it. There is no magic in a camera. I think that all of us are attracted to people who are in touch with their highest selves, the people who are happy and joyful and caught up in the magic that life can be. People love Will Smith because they can feel that energy through the camera. They can feel that energy, that spirit and it resonates within their own self. They can feel that deep connection and oneness with God or Source, it matters not the name, but people can feel the connection to the amazing creative energy that we are all a part of.

And people respond. There is nothing more attractive than someone who is connected to their highest self and their Source and no, I’m not talking about “looking good” or being physically beautiful….no I’m talking deeper. If you think about it you know.

Passion, Enthusiasm, Energy and Joy are incredibly attractive.

Another thing that I found admirable about Will is when he said he didn’t pay his taxes. No it is not admirable to not pay taxes, that is not what I mean. What I mean is that here he was this young 19 year old kid and he owed the IRS something like 2.8 million dollars and he had $2.83. Now we all make mistakes but most people I know and myself included would have probably freaked! There would have been a whole lot of self-condemnation. It would have been a big drama fest and made into a big catastrophe and more than anything the FEAR would have set in and taken over. And one thing that I can say that I know for sure is….

Fear repels money. No question. No doubt.

You cannot create money, or anything else that’s good for that matter, in a spirit of fear. It doesn’t happen.

But it seems that Will Smith didn’t let fear take hold. In fact, he was in such an alignment as to score a great job on a sitcom and he didn’t even know if he could act. I think that would have been impossible had he been harboring any fears about owing the IRS. If any ounce of his energy had been counseling fear, he wouldn’t have been able to create that opportunity.

Will claims that he works really, really hard. I have no doubt that he does. But he does not work hard with a spirit of fear or desperation in a way that says “I must make this happen even if I burn myself out” but rather a spirit of faith, confidence, belief and power. He gets results because all of his energy is concentrated into the achievement of Success and none into the emotions of fear or desperation.

When you focus all, as in every bit, every ounce of your energy into success and what you want you become very Powerful. You can create the life that you want.

And it seems that Will Smith has. I really admire that.

Part 1 — “I Love Living ‘

Part 2 — “the IRS story”

A Joyful Spirit….That is a celebrity worth emulating!

In the bottom of my dresser drawer, I have a golden key. It is old-fashioned, ornate and a bit tarnished from the years that have passed. It is perhaps 8 inches long and I suppose that it is meant to hang on the wall or be used as a fancy paperweight or some such thing. It was given to me by my college sorority to commemorate the accomplishment of a 4.0 grade point average (wasn’t I just the smartie pants?). In the middle it is engraved with 4.0, on the right side, the name of my sorority and on the left side the date. The key was the symbol of my sorority and while I don’t recall much of the relevance behind it I do remember well the frat boys down the street singing about how the “Kappa’s have their Golden key, the key to their virginity”.

I look at it now and I think “Wow, that is pretty cool” and I feel good about it. But at the time I can remember feeling somewhat like a fraud. Like I didn’t really deserve it because I didn’t struggle hard enough to get it. Now that I am older and wiser I know that that is just crazy thinking and not even the way to live life and reach your dreams but back then my 18 year old self had yet to learn that lesson.

You see, that quarter (at that time my University was on a quarter system as opposed to a semester system) I took a full load of classes. All of my classes were ones that I loved and enjoyed and I knew I could ace all of them except for one. That other class. The one I hated, the one I struggled with, the one I couldn’t hardly force myself to study for, the one that in my mind was comparable to having a root canal, except that I would have preferred the root canal because it would have been less painful and over sooner!

So I had a full schedule of English, Writing, Psychology and…. Algebra. I may have had a gym class thrown in for good measure. I don’t recall.

So it was all great, fun and wonderful except for that damn algebra class. Oh, the agony! the pain! the gnashing of teeth! I really hated algebra. I even had a cute frat boy tutoring me and it still didn’t help. He gave me some “good advice that I just didn’t take“ (can you hear Alanis Morissette in the background singing? ‘isn‘t it ironic?’), he said that I should change my mantra from “I hate algebra” to “I love algebra”. (Nope, sorry. Thanks for asking, can’t do that, no drama there!)

Algebra was just not for me. I’m still not too fond of math unless it has a dollar sign in front and then it magically transforms into something I love. Funny how that perspective shift happens! I’ve always been good with figuring out percentages too but when you start putting in the x’s and the y’s and the variables and the statistics and all, I can feel my eyes glazing over. Not my idea of fun. No, not my cup of tea!

So I’m going along loving and enjoying all my classes except for the one and I knew I could get all A’s except for algebra so right before the deadline I dropped the class. Whew, what a relief! The clouds parted and the sun shown through and it felt great! For a minute. And then I reverted back into that all too human mode of “guilt”. Why didn’t I stick it out? Why did I hate algebra? What is the matter with me? Why can’t I just swim up that damn waterfall? (actually the waterfall quote is circa 2008, I never thought that in 1980 but it is so apropos).

It was totally unreasonable because even though I had buried what I really wanted to be when I grew up I still knew it had nothing to do with algebra. I wasn’t ever going to be happy in a job that required algebra. I wasn’t even interested let alone skilled enough to handle that. But it made no difference because in my mind at the time, if I was “really smart” I would have been able to ace algebra! Crazy thinking!

Nobody, absolutely nobody is good at everything! Not even Mr. or Ms. Valedictorian.

And here is another secret and this one is really good. No one ever became a success in happiness or money by doing something that they hated.

People find success by doing what they love.

We all have our own gifts and our own talents if we are to find true happiness and joy in this life we need to honor and nurture our own talents. That is where our purposes lie.

Other people can do the things that you’re not good at. You should do the things that you are good at, the things that you excel at, the things that you love. And others can do the things that they love.

And you know what the truly great thing about it all is? Everything will get done. And everyone will be happy and able to find their highest self by doing what calls to them, by doing whatever it is that they love.

There is something for everyone. Perhaps that is the true relevance for me of the ornate golden key in the bottom of my drawer, that the key to finding true happiness in life lies in honoring my own talents and doing what I love and going with the flow instead of trying to struggle up the waterfall.
